We are going to need more info than that. Let’s start with budget and what you will want to hunt and how you will be hunting( spot and stalk, stand, spotlight).

I’d say Deer, mostly in a stand and price range less than $400

You can get a Ruger American or a Savage Axis for a decent price but then you gotta put glass on it too. I'd consider increasing your price range a bit to get some quality stuff.

I'll sell you a .308 camo axis xp with scope and 79 rounds for 340 bucks. Fired once.

If you are stuck on this budget, get a Ruger American in 6.5 creed. If you can stretch to $530, go Tikka Forest in 7mm-08 on Eurooptic. It is worth the extra money imo.

My dad has one in 30-06, and I don't like it at all. Action is clunky, I was only able to get 1 moa, and it kicked pretty hard

The budget rifle market is fantastic right now.

That should get you a ruger american, mossberg 100, lower end savage, or a marlin .30-30

Theres lots of combos out there that come in around the $400 mark as well. They wont have swarvoski scopes or anything but theyre good enough to get the job done. Get a .270 .30-06 or .308, sight it in, go kill shite.

Here ya go

As others have said, Savage would be my choice. Nothing wrong with Tikka or any number of other options either. But since you stated your budget of $400, there simply isn't a better option. And for the record...If your budget was $1200, I'd tell you to buy the same rifle minus the packaged scope and spend the difference on better glass.

Marlin 336 30-30. I bought one of the newer ones that “suck” but I have killed more hogs with that thing than my other two rifles combined - $3,800 worth.

Of course, opportunities abound because I always have the 30-30...but it does the job 100 yrds on in.

this Tikka T3 270 on Eurooptic.com

or this Tikka T3 30-06 on Eurooptic.com

I think these are the best bang for your buck if you can bump up to $500. Picked up a T3 in 22-250 over the summer. shooting 3-shots 1/2 moa @ 100yds with hornady sst 50gr

If $400 is your absolute ceiling, then look at Savage.
