My wife just sent me to Academy to get a pellet gun to exterminate the squirrel population that keeps messing with her bird feeder. I've never been so happy.

Any recommendations?

since you have her blessing get a better one than academy. There's a good Florida based Facebook group for iguana hunters and those guys are really knowledgeable about airguns since they hunt mostly in city limits.

Did she SPECIFICALLY say pellet gun? I gotta know because this might be an opportunity to get a suppressed .22LR.

Went with this. Wasn’t cheap by any means. But looks like it’s gonna be a nice time.

Curious what Gamo you purchased.

I purchased the break barrel, Gamo Swarm xxx for my father as a Chrismas present. He likes it, but it is a little loud.

I personally own 2 different Benjamin air rifles.

Benjamin Marauder Pistol in .22, that I converted into a rifle for more stability. It is a PCP air gun. I added a suppressor and you can shoot this gun anywhere. It is incredibly quiet. This is a 8 magazine bolt action - shoots around 850fps.

Benjamin Trail Nitro Piston.
This is a break barrel in .22 caliber. A very quiet gun in comparison to most off the shelf air rifles, but in comparison to my Marauder, it sounds like a shotgun. This gun is very accurate and fire at almost 1200fps. Pellets easily shoot through squirrels at this power, so be careful with your shot background.

Recently had squirrels get into my attic and had to declare war. I have taken out 31 squirrels in my backyard in recent months. Happy hunting.

The Gammo Swarm maximum. Pellet guns have come a long way since the days of my Daisy and Benjamin pump.

Was struggling with setting up the scope last night. Perhaps it was just late in the day and I was too tired. Admittedly, I’m not at all engineer inclined.

I see you've already bought a Gamo, but for cheap, I got a Benjamin Pump .177 caliber many years ago when we had a bad pigeon problem and I must have killed a couple hundred of them over the years. They would raid the dog's food dish daily, take the dry food out and drop it in his water dish to soften it to make it easier to eat.

It's also killed squirrels and the occasional possum that likes my compost pile and fig tree.

I don't think I spent $50 for the damn thing back then, and it will do the job.

Spring air rifles are notoriously hard on scopes. You might just have a scope that can't handle the recoil.

Learn the artillery hold if you are not familiar with it.

I have the Gamo Varmint .177 rifle. Knocks squirrels dead. Get a heavy pellet to keep the pellet below the speed of sound to prevent that loud crack. I also shoot inside through an open window to contain the sound.

I think my nitro piston is a lemon. I’m gonna have to send it back. That pump holds a really tight group though.

I got the adapter on the pump from a guy named froggy on eBay who, I think, is in Thibodeaux. I have an LDC on the way from Poland. Supposedly all you hear is the click of the hammer and the sound of the pellet hitting whatever you shoot.

I use an electric fence transformer and special wiring up the bird feeder poll. There have been ZERO squirrels or raccoons in m y bird feeder for about 30 years.

I use a Gamo silver shadow pellet gun to wack then on the ground at up to 40 yards.

Texan Airforce pellet rifle or something like that. 45 caliber pellet that go real fast. Drops deer and hogs. Should take a squirrel down.

I have the Texas SS .45 suppressed, and it’s accurate as all get out, and quiet, but not for squirrels. Deer and hogs, all day....
