For those that have a bay boat, who do you have your insurance with? What does it cost you? Any issues with your provider?

Don't use Progressive. Hit an unknown object in open water late last year, bent the propshaft and blew out the seals. Mechanic said it needs to be replaced but they would only pay for the repair. Long story short I footed the rest of the replace cost. Mechanic told me Progressive is notorious for repairing not replacing new.

Is it working like normal? If it’s working normal and the repair was cheaper why would insurance pay a higher amount to replace? I use progressive but don’t have a dog in the fight really too be honest I never shopped it.

Last I looked my insurance was $450 with progressive and that includes towing if needed.

I have Geico. My boat is older with original outboard so probably 1/4 the value of a new one. I'm around $55/month

What kind of coverage are you getting? Hull, Indemnity, wreck removal? What kind of limits? What’s the total insured value of your boat? $55/month is cheap.

I haven’t looked at the premiums in a while. I think it’s less than 800 for the year.

I have Travelers and I am pleased. 22ft pathfinder. Was $500 annually, but I hit jetties last year while going too slow thru boat cut. It was dark and a ship hauling arse shifted the water as I was going thru and bounced my stern off the rocks. Repair was $7k! My premium only went up $100 this year. I can't complain; I was expecting much worse.

The same ship caused another bay boat sitting inside the jetties to flip over, and washed a 3rd boat up onto jetty wall and high centered. That pilot must have been trying to get home and catch Jody.

Too bad you couldn't get the name of the boat. They would be liable for repairs.

Had tow pass the B. Pigeon Landing too fast about 10 years ago - tossed a lot of boats around, damaged the prop on my engine. I got push boat name and sent prop repair bill to shipping company w/ letter listing time & place of incident. They paid immediately with no questions.

The Yamaha mechanic recommends replacing the whole lower unit as opposed to rebuilding. The impact was enough to bend the propshaft out of round more than an inch. I tend to believe a certified master mechanic's opinion over the insurance adjuster trying to save his company money. I was putting a new lower unit on the motor either way so I footed the difference in price myself. This boat fishes 20-45 miles offshore with a single O/B so I was not risking rebuilt equipment leaving me stranded. Risk mitigation ain't always cheap.
