Get a pair of guineas to go with them. They'll eat ticks, and every dam bug on the place.

Came out nice.

My experiment with chickens failed last year. Kids killed one, dog killed one and then the cows fricked up the coop. I gave the rest away.

Was just curious if anyone remembered the ole SNL skit. Think it was Dana Carvey.

What kind of egg production do you get out of 6 chickens?

you are officially "that" neighbor now

I was going to say this. My neighbor has three of these bastards that drive my dog nuts, cackle all day and certainly carry some sort of avian disease.

Pics look great man. Like the coop. My brother just built a chicken tractor out of some pipe left over from an old green house. Gonna have to get his plans. Im ready to get some and get rid of my useless ducks.

Uncle Jed! Is that you? Where's Ellie May?

Naw, seriously, you're going to really enjoy them, especially if you have kids.

With the price of "organic" eggs, you can make a pretty penny off of them (at least pay for themselves).

One of my boys made at least $2,500 a year net off of 30 hens.

Only when at highest level of production.

For a laying breed, figure Max of 6 eggs per week for 43 weeks a year (if you put a timed light on them during the winter).

If no light, then production may go down to 2 a week when sunlight gets below 10/12 hrs a day.

Also figure a total cessation during a molt every 10-14 months. (molts last about 1.25 months)

awesome! However, that pretty grass is gonna take a beating.
Had a banty rooster with some big, white hens. Leghorns, I think. Real funny to watch him have his way with the girls
