Dayam. I remember when I was young..we had a couple goats..when they finished clearing the underbrush, dad took em to negro hill near the airport and gave em away. Was the only folks who wanted a stinkin goat.

Araucana lay light green colored eggs. I personally always liked Dominique Or dominicker the best. Those have gotten really expensive lately.

I've never had any. I have a few Buff Orpington's and a Barred Rock.
Great choices. Hearty birds. Barred rocks produce better than Buffs when the weather gets hot.

Actually, I'm not sure if it's a Barred or Plymnouth Rock. I was looking at the color pattern today and trying to remember what I'd once read on the net.
Black & white? That's actually called a "Barred Plymouth Rock".

It's a "Plymouth Rock" variety that has white "Bars" on a black body...hence, "Barred Plymouth Rock". They're often called "Barred Rocks" for short.

IMHO, these and Americaunas are the best breeds for LA & TX (in terms of egg production, heartiness, and personalities suitable for kids).

We have 2 red stars, a rhode island red, and 2 unknown breeds.

The only noisy one is the rhode island red (Tobasco). They are all very tame and docile. The kids pick em up and carry em around the yard all day when they're home. Hell, they had two of them on the damn see-saw the other day and one jumped off and an egg came out her cloaca when she hit the ground.
