I have been seeing a few reports of people using these. Academy was sold out so I took to the internets to order one. They are $15+ on Amazon which is pretty damn high in my opinion. Has anyone used these? Are they worth the fairly hefty price for a bass/inshore topwater?

I watched a guy catch a Skipjack Tuna on a whopper plopper last summer.

Yeah I said wtf as well.

Local Academy started stocking them, or just has them in stock. I have caught some nice fish on the 90 size.

Pretty well made and fun to throw as well.

Thinking of picking up one or two in the 110 size.

Caught all these on WP. They couldn't resist it that day. It's like any other bait. Works when thats what they want to eat. It does makes some good noise on the retrieve

Well that's a pretty damn convincing argument. What size is that? 110?

I have the black 110. I haven't caught anything on it yet because I don't throw it much. I don't have a ton of confidence in my top water abilities yet. I have a few buddies who catch with theirs though. They love it.

ETA: Maybe I have the 90. I have the medium sized one.

How do you work them? I’ve got one as a gift that’s never left the package. Only topwaters I ever throw are she dog’s and spooks.

Just cast and retieve maybe pause here and there. When you feel the tail spins to create noise. Thats all I've ever done but I haven't used them a whole lot. Just got lucky that day. No one was catching on the usual baits so I kept chunking. When we found them they let us know.

I have a 90. Been having it for about a year. Haven’t caught a single fish on it yet. To be fair, I don’t throw it often.

FYI Academy in Ellic has them on sale for $10. Must not be selling round here.

No. No bait for inshore or freshwater is worth $15.

I (and many many others) have limited on bass or reds or specs a bunch of times without spending $15 on a bait.

Had them pre bobby lane on Toledo. Started with 90in loon. Catches a shite load of fish. I ended up getting bone in 130 for Toledo and black and monkey but in 110. Absolutely cannot be fished in grass.

People fish for different reasons. Not hard for me to accumulate 15 bucks worth of plastics I won’t use walking down the aisle at academy. I could probably limit out every trip with live bluegill.

WPs are very durable and there’s no reason to get more than two colors. I’ve seen thinner hooks and hardware on tuna poppers. So for about 30-45 bucks you’re prettymuch getting all the baits you’ll ever need for that presentation, which overall is a very good one and relatively speaking isn’t that bad when it comes to bass shite.
