Whopper Plopper is hard to beat on any river system when it comes to top water. My tournament partner refuses to throw one and always throws a lunker lure instead. I always catch more and bigger fish but I miss way more. He's just old school and loves that damn lunker lure.

I throw the bone 90 a bit. It is one of my favorite baits. If it’s first thing in am or late evening I’m throwing it.

Caught trout, reds and bass on it. Holds up well and the hooks are incredibly sharp.

These aren't new tech, but they're about $6. Ask your paw paw if they work.

The black and yellow 90 is the greatest bait ive ever used. Ive caught fish on every body of water with it and big fish as well. It is deadly on points where water is moving

Buzzbaits and prop baits have been around for 70 years. Everyone in this thread probably has a Heddon torpedo laying around somewhere. It's not a new tech thing, its tuning and incorporating a combination of old "tech" that works, which they did.

Yeah but they don’t work near as good as the updated version that you absolutely need to spend $22 on.

I will neva know how those expensive baits work. I most often fish for supper and almost always catch enough for me and da wife with my old school baits. Good enough for me.

It didn't happen. The jitterbug is still selling and Japanese companies are making wakebaits/skidders just like it tweaking the action and sound and selling the hell out of them to the tune of 20 bucks a pop. It has it's place in every topwater box just like the tiny torpedo, buzzbait, frog, pop-R, and spook.

I guess people like taking shots at the WP because of the price tag, but it has a unique action and presentation just like all the baits I listed. You may find some days the fish only want it a certain way. Half the fun of fishing is figuring that out on any given day IMO. The WP is just a different tool in the toolbox.

I ran by Academy this afternoon and ended up getting a black and yellow 130 and the white and chartreuse 110. Luckily they were both on sale for $9.99 so it may be worth a try. Hopefully I can get on a topwater bite next weekend
