could kill a state record buck with it and I would not claim it as an "archery" kill.
Don't worry. No record books would classify it as archery either.

I think the only valid points made in this thread is mind your own business as long as it is not illegal.
That's funny. Only points that come across to me are 1) some people think killing a deer with a crossbow is equally as difficult as with a compound, and 2) almost everyone hates dog hunters.
Disclaimer- I'm talking about able-bodied non-injured or elderly crossbow hunters.

Never mind that it is a lazy as frick method of hunting.
Similar to walking into the woods during archery season and sitting in a box stand with a crossbow waiting for a deer to come to your feeder, or not quite that lazy?

Anyone who thinks this has never shot either, or has someone lay out their clothes each day and tell them what and when to eat.

Almost
People can call dog hunting lazy all they want, but it's a hell of a lot tougher than walking to a stand 1 time a day and sitting all day. Property disputes are 1 thing, but to call it lazy is another. Try catching a pack of dogs that are on a deer. Or try staying out all night looking for them so you will have a pack to run the next day.
And how the hell did we go from a man asking if hunting with a crossbow is legall to this?

I see alot of the defenders of using the crossbow during archery season are from Arkansas. I know there is a correlation between the 2, I just can't quite put my finger on it...

For the record, I like hunting with dogs. It's far more work than people realize.

You must do it different than they do it here. They put radio collars on the dogs and set em free. Then they drive up and down the roads trying to find their dogs. Only getting out when they can get no closer.
The thing that makes them the biggest pieces of shite though, is when they pull the collars off the dogs they don't think performed well or whatever reason they have and set them free. We constantly find starving dogs just after bear season on US129. Dogs always look like they have been treated like shite even before released to fend for themselves. The hunters are generally low life scum anyway though, pouring oil on the roads to wreck motorcyclists and other nonsense.

Link? I don't care for dog hunting, but you painting with a broad brush there.

Maybe because, as long as its legal, we don't let what other people do bother us
It's not like crossbow hunters make any appreciable impact on the deer herd. In Arkansas there are more deer killed opening weekend of gun season than in the entire archery season.

Link to what? These are first person observations, I've cleaned up the oil and called animal shelters to help with dogs. I'm sure not all dog hunters throughout the world are like that, but the dog hunters around the parts I travel don't have a very good reputation.

I've seen crossbow hunters buy a new crossbow, shoot it at bass pro, and go hunting the next day for the first time ever, and cripple a deer because they were told they could shoot out to 50 yards. I'm sure not all the crossbow hunters throughout the world are like that, but the crossbow hunters around the parts I travel don't have a very good reputation.
It takes more skill to get to the point of releasing an arrow from a "real" bow, than it does with a crossbow, for an animal at an ethical distance. The result of this is, unfortunately, a lot less skilled individuals releasing arrows at game.

I missed this thread but the only thing I have to add is that when it comes to primitive weapons yall can pry my 35 whelen out of my cold dead hands.

However the sorry folks who are too lazy to learn the skills and put in the practice required to hunt with a bow need stay out of the woods until rifle season comes in.
Every single person I know who owns a crossbow was someone who previously hunted with a compound bow. Does that mean everyone that owns one is? No. But you jackasses are trying to paint with a pretty broad brush. I bought a crossbow 5-6 years ago, after hunting with a compound for 25 years or so...the same compound bow over that entire time. And while it wasn't a recurve, I can promise you that it was far more difficult, slow, and required more practice than the 350 fps, 80% let off compounds you pussies hunt with today.
You dumbasses in this thread need to do some serious self reflection. I've seen wayyyy too many deer killed out of box stands with compounds and recurves for y'all to be throwing stones at people who hunt with a crossbow. You can find shite like this everywhere.
Does it mean bow hunters are all lazy? Of course not. Quit being pricks.

i use one because my eyes can't focus on the pin and the target in anything other than broad daylight conditions. i didn't want to risk wounding animals.
