I thought the GSP rescue my wife and I are in was crazy but they at least let you pick the dog you want after your home inspection.

I got to pick any male. Females were more, and mostly already bought anyway.

BUMP

We picked up Penny this past Friday. 8 weeks old exactly.

Here are 2 pictures and a video from her first day:

Cuddling after a long day with her new sister the greyhound:

She isn't exactly shy as a puppy

So far so good.
Only 1 accident in the house. Already has down come, sit, wait, and paw. When we take her outside, she just about pisses immediately. She's only woken us up once per night during the past 3 nights (usually around 5AM). She's already really fond of her kennel. When she wants a nap. She'll grab one of her toys and go lie down in her kennel.

Right now she's at a good stage. Play an hour. Sleep an hour. Play an hour. Sleep an hour. so on and so forth.

Today is her first day alone at home, with both of us at work. So crossing fingers she keeps it up without us being there to play 24/7.

yeah man. she's really great.

i know i've got puppy love and am a proud parent, but i'm pretty impressed with how fast she picks up on things.

The breeder experience went a lot better than expected considering we went in knowing we wouldn't get to pick our $1500 puppy. The breeder met us the Sunday before at a park near bye her ranch, told us to bring our greyhound, and she would bring all the puppies for us to see. The lady is really great once you get to know her. Extremely knowledgeable in regards to the breed. All 7 puppies being there was quite interesting. Our greyhound was kind of taken back by it, but she was well behaved. Kind of just stood there in amazement. The breeder loved her and complimented us on how well behaved and trained she was.

She let us play with all the girl puppies to get to know them, but told us not to pick one out or even tell her which ones we liked. She still was going to pick one based on our lifestyle and the dogs personality.

Once there, we kind of realized: All 5 girl dogs looked identical in size, weight, etc. The entire litter didn't have a single white hair on them. Beautiful dogs. But there were 3 girls we specifically liked their personalities. Pink with a blue stripe. Pink with white dots. And purple. They were the most bold and social when it came to playing with us and the greyhound. It was funny, they would tug at her leash and walk her around the park. Guess they thought that was entertaining, ha. None of the other owners showed up that day. So we spent a good 2 hours talking to the breeder and playing with the puppies. I think this went a long way with the breeder. She understood we were a young couple that was always on the go, exercising, and enjoying the outdoors.

So come last Friday, she met us at the same park. With just one dog. Had my girlfriend open up her truck door and pull our puppy out of a box. It was pink with a blue stripe girl. One of the three we liked the most. The breeder said if she was going to keep one herself from the litter it would've been that girl, because she's very social, bold, and independent. Which is one of the things we told her we wanted the most having the greyhound and neighbors with large dogs. The breeder sent us home with a big bag of dogfood, a bag of chews and treats, and even threw in some big chews for our greyhound. So I would certainly recommend Bravo Vizsla in Livingston, TX to anyone else wanting a vizsla. Beautiful show quality dogs and a very knowledgeable breeder.

Since we've taken her home. She's done really well with the few commands we've been working with her on. The leash training is the one negative. she will do fine for 15-20 paces around the backyard, then want to yank and pull on it. We let her throw her little fit, then praise her when she starts walking again. She also has an outy belly button, i don't know the correct term. But when the mother chews off the umbilical cord, she yanked at it a tad hard and now all the puppies have this protrusion bump where it was attached. The breeder told us to gently push it back in a few times a day and it should heal normally on it's own in the next week or so. She gets her second round of shots this Thursday, which will be nice, so that we can let her outside more, socialize with the neighbor's dogs, and take her for walks in the neighborhood.

The greyhound is coming around to her. She gets a bit annoyed by her a time or two a day and in general doesn't really have much to do with her yet. She's just to small for her to see as a companion right now. Penny desperately wants to play with her, but has gotten snarled at a time or two so doesn't get too close or brave. When they are both sleeping we force the greyhound to cuddle with her. Other than that she's starting to let her get closer to her and her belongings without snapping. The greyhound loves to chase the tennis ball in the backyard, sprint wide open, and have us chase her. Yesterday she slowed down enough to let Penny chase her, dropped the ball a time or two for her, and was attempting to play.

It'll happen in another month or so when Penny is big enough to keep up with her. It's the reason we got another dog and specifically a vizsla, we wanted a companion capable of playing with her.

TL;DR. sorry, proud father. I'll post some more pictures in a bit.

I leave the house for 15 minutes to run to the gas station and she managed to somehow, magically get into the 8" wide sectioned off area of her kennel.

ETA: Check out this photo of our's when he was a puppy. This was 8 years ago.

1 step, 2 steps back.

since we've had to kennel her all day when we go to work, she's definitely gotten more accustomed to being alone and being locked in the kennel.

(stills tears up her puppy pad, but no accidents)

last night we put in the kennel and she didn't whimper, whine, or cry. Went right to sleep and slept thru the entire night. It was amazing. Previously she'd cry for 30 minutes, sleep, then wake us up around 4:30-5AM to go outside.

BUT
This morning the weather was awful in Houston. Lightning, thunder, heavy rain, and howling wind. She did not want to go outside to take care of her business. I tried and tried. Got drenched. She kept running for the porch. I gave up knowing the storm line would pass in a few minutes and I would try again after I got dressed. Left her in the living room with the greyhound. In 20 minutes she shite on the floor twice, threw up her breakfast, and pissed on the floor.

I run her outside in case she needed to go again. She finally does, then walking inside i step in a 2lb mountain the greyhound left right off the porch.

Fun morning.
