I don't really drink anymore. I'm not like in AA or anything but I don't like hangovers and I don't like a beer belly.

I'll have one or two every once in a while but that's tops.

To each his own though. I'll definitely indulge in other things that don't have those side effects.

I get “drunk” about two or three times a year.

I have a little anxiety disorder. Hangovers put it into hyperdrive. I worry about everything.

And I must be the anomaly, but I don’t sleep well at all after drinking too much

If you quit, welcome to losing weight.

About 4 years ago, I went three days without drinking and seriously lost about a pound a day.

Thinking about doing it again.

Same here.

I’m at the point in life where I’d rather have a nice nights sleep instead of a good buzz.

Probably don’t kill shite cause you stumble to the same stands over and over regardless of wind bedding areas in hopes to shoot anything!

While I would add one or two more “drinks” in that list….this should effectively end the thread.

this "plan" was given to me by an old timer that used to run camps as Master of the Hunt...it allows you to have memorable and enjoyable hunts. You dont need to stay up all night the first night to ruin the rest of the weekend.
Enjoy a beer or two or some wine at the friday night dinner and be able to get to a stand (safely) before sunrise and truly enjoy the morning. Enjoy a solid breakfast, delicious cocktail, epic nap, and a box stand hunt WITH a friend who you dont get to see often.

THEN you can burn the candle at both ends and feel good about having spent some quality time on saturday.

The biggest mistake people make is to go HAM on Friday right when they get there.

I have a ridiculously hectic job and about 19 children. I can't stay awake past 10pm no matter what. Drinking in the evenings doesn't affect my mornings.

You need to be rested when hunting in the morning plain and simple. It has been proven that even when you go to bed you don't sleep good when you drink alcohol.

It isn't safe to be around guns drunk and you are still drunk in the morning if you drank all night. When I didn't have youngones I didn't think about it. But, now I don't do it. I need to be on my A game.

So, if I could tell my younger self something it is being rested and not drunk makes hunting way more fun and successful. But, now that I have kids I just won't do it. It isn't safe at all plus I want them to be successful.

My grandad was the best hunter I’ve ever known. He never drank. Maybe a glass of wine at Xmas.

But he was the best for a reason. He didn’t miss hunts, he sat still for long periods of time and was patient (painfully patient)

And most importantly, he took me hunting with him every time he went until I could go by myself. (After my dad died when I was 7)

You don’t have to be that hardcore, but it’s something to think about.

Recovered - As from my screen name it took me a long time to realize what I was doing to the people around me.

Honest Tune - One year sober/clean October 15.

PT24-7 - I don’t drink, and never have.

jsmoke 222000 - I'm a recovering alcoholic.

dandyjohn - I don't really drink anymore.

Congrats to those who are sober and have quit drinking regardless of the reasons why. Ultimately, you made the decision to change your lifestyles after being miserable and hurting others. I've been sober for 34+ years and can relate to each of your stories. Keep doing what you're doing and living one day at a time. I don't judge those who drink or smoke. If you can have a great time while drinking, and still carry on a responsible life with your family and friends, more power to you

Sobriety at the camp and witnessing the beauty of mother nature is always a good thing.

This is when life gets good. When I quit looking for the bowl and could appreciate what was all around me, I felt like I had taken a big step. I don’t judge anyone’s decision to what they do with their hunting time, but I knew I had to make changes.

We killed 5 this past week

I’ll be going back next week for 5 days to catch part of the rut so I will be having a few by the fire but I’m going to bed for 9:30 to 10 to get up around 5:45.

Saw a shite load of deer this past week and it rained everyday while I was there.

No

It’s taken me a long time to build up this level of tolerance. Drinking at the camp is one of life’s great pleasures up there with taking a piss outside when it’s cold.

I’ve mastered how to fix this Drink during the day Eat big arse meal at night Go to bed after fat belly fed
This is key. I get ka-sayed pretty much every night I’m camping but I’m very rarely up last 9. If I drink till midnight or so, I’m useless the next day.

Not getting tired of it, just cut way back. Used to bring 2-3 cases a weekend for myself and now I will just drink 2-3 beers and fall asleep by the fire.

I’d like to add that each person’s situation is different

Person A: has his son with him to hunt
Person B: got away from his three girls for the first time in 9 months

Person B needs to do whatever the FUVK he wants. Sleep all weekend, get blackout drunk, hunt all day in the woods in silence. Whatever. I’m not here to judge, it’s your time off
