Bapple, still have the FNS9C on my wishlist. Still waiting to get it
That’s a solid choice. I only have the full sized version and I’d honestly recommend the 509 over the FNS but I don’t know if they make a compact version of it yet. Still, I’m a big fan of FN handguns. I think they’re very underrated.

This thread just got me to look at my CCW and see when it expires... next February
Do I need to take another class for that or just an application? Saw there is a lifetime option, I'll do that next time
Posted on 7/13/20 at 12:04 pm to Theboot32
You need to take a renewal class. The lifetime permit still requires that you take the renewal class every 5 years. The 5 year permit actually helps you in purchasing fire arms because they know you’ve gone through recent background checks. U less you’re a young whippersnapper and would save a ton of money, stick with the 5 year.

They do. Hit shelves last month I believe.

how the hell do non residents drive around during hunting season? lol
I’ve been taught since I was a child that your rifle/shotgun gets unloaded when you get back to your vehicle after the hunt. Safety reasons....

Just put the damn thing in your truck however you would normally put it. Is it clearly visible from standing outside the vehicle, which would be a stupid idea by the way in any state. Do you plan on getting pulled over? If you do get pulled over, do you plan on giving the officer a reason to search your car? Just act normal. You get pulled over, you get a ticket for speeding or whatever and you go on about your day. There's no reason anyone has to know you have a loaded gun in your truck. It's there for your protection if needed, and that's it, so unless you need it, no one will ever know it's there, unless you're a drug dealing loser that gives cops a reason to search your vehicle.
I wouldn’t argue, but this just seems like horrible advice.
No offense

Give me a scenario where a police officer finds out you have a loaded gun in your truck while you are passing through Alabama?
I understand you want to follow the law, and you are without a doubt doing the right thing, but how would anyone know there's a gun in your truck?

Pretty stupid IMO
Like someone else said, good reason to have a CCW.

Most of the people I know with CCPermits are drunks so they void the permit

My wife and I went from Ms to N.C. back in March to visit our oldest son. I took my 12 ga .870 3" in the back seat of the truck. She had questions, I said, get it let's roll. I guess I was not informed or didn't give a shite.

In Alabama, if you don't have a pistol permit (CCW), you will need to unload your pistol to transport it. Also has to be out of reach of all passengers.
This shouldn’t be a problem with a semi auto. But I could see the issue with a wheel gun trying to get it loaded for use in a tense moment.
I just carry my wheel gun in my lower compartment under my center console and my 9 in the box above my glove box.

good reason to have a CCW.

Put a "I Love Saban" sticker on your truck and you're good to go

When I was 22, I was headed back from Gulf Shores and was stopped for speeding. 10 over in a 60. When the officer approached I was asked for the usual, but since I had ice chests in the vehicle that they wanted to look in, I was asked if I had any firearms in the vehicle. Being young and dumb, listening to momma tell me to always be upfront and honest I said yes. Sat on the side of the highway cuffes in the back seat of a squad car for 2 hours because my firearm was located in the center console with a full magazine and a round in the chamber. I ended up being let go with a warning for the pistol and the officer put the mag in my lockable console and my pistol in the back seat.

What I have never understood about Bama is with how Red the state is, why we have this CCW law.

Not to mention that some sheriff got caught handing out pistol permits like candy so now we have to go through a NICS check even if you have a pistol permit.
I had no idea that's what happened. I thought it was some new fed thing the first time that happened to me.

Here's what you ALWAYS do:
1) When you hand the officer your drivers license and registration, say the following EXACTLY.
2)"Officer, I have a sidearm in the vehicle and it has (or does not have) a round in the chamber. Would you like for me to step out of the vehicle while you secure the weapon?"
Using those words you immediately identify yourself as not being a threat and most likely a former LEO/military veteran or active duty. (Who else would call it a weapon?)
If they ask you if you have a CCP it is a simple yes or no.
I have several really good friends - stood in one's wedding - who are retired LEO's and that is precisely what I was coached to say.
Being in construction I travel A LOT and get pulled over regularly for speeding. Only one time have I been asked to step out, only once asked for my permit and never gotten a ticket.
I have had staties come up to my passenger side window, I tell them that, they ask where the pistol is and what it is, I tell them and all they say is okay. Most of the time wind up in a pleasant conversation and have yet to get a ticket I deserved. Maybe the fact that I am a silver headed 65 has something to do with it but you get my drift.
Courtesy and honesty always carry the day unless you are in Maryland or some peckerhead state like that. And by the way, some states like SC require you by law to advise the officer immediately if there is a weapon in the car, regardless of what type it is. Use common sense and they will too.

So that you have reciprocity or recognition in states that require you to have a CCP. It's a political courtesy and a damned good one.

How about you just hand him the license and registration, and politely wait for him to write you a ticket or not, and then go about your day. What is the point of telling him you have a loaded gun? The only reason it is necessary to tell him is if you are going to go in that compartment that contains the gun, or he will be going into it. Then you would tell him what you said.
Other than that, all your doing is making a scene for no reason.
Cops are already on high alert b/c there's so many idiots out there. they don't know if you're an idiot or a normal guy. Bringing a gun into the conversation does nothing positive. Just be polite as always, do what you're asked to do, and go about your day.
My license is in my phone case. My registration is in my glove compartment. My gun is in my center console. Under no circumstances would a cop ever know my gun is in my console b/c the likelihood of my truck getting searched is close to zero for a routine traffic stop, and there's no other reason for either of us to go in my center console. If he asks me if i have a gun for some dumb reason, i'd be honest and tell him yes. But other than that, it's a routine traffic stop with no mention of gun at any moment.

I agree, which is why there is no reason to mention anything about the gun, unless you have to, and there will be no problems.
