I’ve killed 2 limits on the only 2 days I’ve been this year. Was windy both times. I don’t think it had anything to do with the wind, it just happened to be windy on the two days I decided to go. They aren’t doing anything different on a windy day, you just can slip up on them easier.

Maybe your dad just doesn’t like being out in the wind when it’s cold or had something else to do (or just didn’t feel like going).

We didn’t do much squirrel hunting when it was windy back in the day either. I’ve got to admit I’ve used the too windy excuse a time or two (not proud of it).

Nice looking rifle setup you’ve got.

when you've got a silencer and subsonic ammo, it's possible to take 5 of them out of the same tree on occasion.

I've never hunted for squirrels on public. Don't you piss off a lot of deer hunters walking around?

I was 3 miles away from the next parked vehicle. They were ok.

Mostly squirrel hunted when I was a kid. Only time we wouldn't go is if the wind was blowing hard like after a front. The squirrel would hit the ground instead of limb out when they would see the dog..

I've always had my best luck on cool, calm and clear mornings with squirrels.
On those windy days, maybe I just don't spot them, not sure. Hard to see them with every branch in the woods moving, and hard to hear them too. They are still in the woods, and they still have to make a living. Your theory does sound good though. It has to be harder for the hawks to see them in the trees on windy days, so maybe they use those days to gather acorns like crazy.

Deer hunters don’t have more right than squirrel or any other hunters on our public lands.

I do both and try to be courteous but I’m not staying home because it’s deer season and I’m squirrel hunting. Most wmas close everything else during either sex rifle season though.

Yup, I try to stay away from people. I havent walked up on anybody yet. I normally go by boat.

I was the only person parked at the trail head yesterday. It's a split between gun seasons right now.

If he has never had good luck hunting in certain conditions he isnt going to go. He likes to gloat if he tells you that you wont kill and you dont kill lol.

Thanks, I like it. I can't take credit for how it looks, though. All I did was slap a scope on it

I shot a few in the head. Further shots I try to shoot at the last rib back. Looks ugly but usually not any meat loss.

Nice set up in the pic. Question, is that a Redfield 2-7 Battlezone? I have one on my old nylon 66 I really like it. Providing you want twice what you paid for it and a vortex 2-7 I'm in.
btw did you throw any deer in the trunk of that Camry this season

They prefer less windy, but a lot of other factors come into play. Was it very rainy on the previous days? Squirrels aren't very active in very rainy or extremely cold days. If you have a day of sun after a rainy or very cold and gray day, squirrels will be out feeding.

Yes it is a redfield battlezone, I've had it for a couple of years. I wasnt aware of vortex when I bought it. I like the glass and reticle a lot but I HATE the windage and elevation turrets. I have them taped up because I'm prone to fidgeting with stuff like that while sitting.

I shot a few hogs in sherb so far but no deer. Havent deer hunted much yet. It was my senior semester so I stayed home a studied a lot.
