Can't believe how man said Golden after reading this

My Golden is 80 pounds and has a serious bark, however he wouldn't hurt a fly.

We have a German Shepherd/Yellow Lab mutt.

1. 65 pounds
2. Smartest dog I've ever owned. Crate/House trained very fast although we did do puppy classes with him.
3. Deep, deep growl anytime comes to the door. Looks like he'd be an a-hole.
4. Awesome with my 2yo son. Like absolutely amazing awesome, but my son does sneak him food. Might be part of it.

I have a female Catahoula and plan to own another after she’s gone. Great with my kids and protective. Not a huge dog. Weighs about 55 lbs.

So does every other dog. The average lifespan of large breeds is 8-10 years.

I agree with you that boxers are great dogs. However they die of cancer....a lot.

No matter what kind of dog you get, if you do not obedience train it, you are not going to be happy. TAKE THE TIME to teach the dog basic commands and how to be polite around people. Most important thing about getting any dog.

Someone said standard poodle, and I actually agree. That or something mixed with poodle. It's nice not to deal with shedding, and they are some of the smartest dogs around.

They get a bad rap because people see them as frou frou, but they are super athletic and were bred as hunting dogs.

I got one 3 months ago and he's awesome. Smart as hell, doesn't shed, and makes noise if someone is at the door. The only problem I've had is that he likes to chew up the bed in his kennel and any socks layin around.

Wasn't this the dog that the Mongols taught to finish of the wounded enemy after battle? Probably a myth though.

This is not always the case. Completely depends on the type of coat the dog has.

We have an F1 labradoodle and she is wicked smart but sheds worse than our lab.

3) Not necessarily vicious but would make strangers think twice about breaking in

Any dog medium to large sized would accomplish this. THe type of people that break into homes are just going to pass your house by if there's a dog over 25 lbs
