quote:

Roach and Lingoni told deputies they spent Sunday afternoon and night clinging to a single life jacket after their boat sank in the Rigolets. They made it to shore at Goose Point sometime Monday morning and swam across a marsh area, taking refuge at the camp until they were found, said Suzanne Carboni, a Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

Caruthers said that the two had gone out to pull up their crab traps before the weather turned, but their boat sank near Treasure Isle. Roach told his sister that they were able to swim through the railroad bridge within about 45 minutes of the boat sinking. When they finally reached land, she said, they started walking.

Where they say the boat sank and where they came ashore are is a good distance. That was one hell of a swim.

Lingoni appears to be quite buoyant.

Seems reasonable to me. Strong east wind combined with an incoming storm surge pushing them in the same direction. They said they reached the train bridge in about 45 minutes after sinking...trestle bridge is 5 miles from Treasure Isle.

About 12 miles from Treasure Island to Bayou Lacombe, they were in the water say 16 hours, wind and seas capable of sinking a small boat make breathing while floating in the water and sharing a life vest a chore to say the least.

Nola Lakefront waves on the news yesterday looked choppy 3-4 foot, prevailing wind Sunday was NE until around midnight, switching to SSW after. They'd have been pushed out first and then pushed in towards northshore.

Glad they are safe some very, very lucky folks but I think there is more to this story. These type of accidents, in the midst of a tropical storm overnight, don't usually end well.

Why would you swim through a railroad bridge and not get out of the water there? I don’t know the story here.

The only lie that would make sense is if they were doing something like cleaning out a meth camp and are lying to prevent authorities from finding it. Why else lie? Was there a north wind from the back end of the storm? I mean why else not try to go to shore closer?

Two resident geniuses heading out into a shallow lake in a boat when a tropical storm is hitting.

Too bad nature didn't finish the job so they could be up for the much sought after "Darwin Award" by idiots that do dumb shite.

like how they were in sight of land the whole time yet swam for miles and miles parallel to land rather then swim straight towards land and be there in a just a few hours?

ya, there is more to this story, most likely a drug deal on the water that went wrong and they were left on that island and had their boat taken

You are special.
Ever swam in a lake with huge tide/wind/waves, etc?

There may indeed me more to this story, but it's not because they didn't just decide to swim in a straight line towards the shore.

One pdf minus the two natural flotation devices. Seems like a lot of poor decisions that somehow did not end up with loss of life.

That’s a misquote. What they said was “We went check crab traps”

yeah something is fishy for sure. Either a drug deal like you said or the boat was sunk for insurance $$
