Why is this not being advertised or broadcasted in the news?

I can see the responsible headline now "Gun ban in Aurora Co. leaves hundreds of innocent civilians helpless"

Of course the argument will be "but but he bought his guns legally so if we banned them all nothing bad would ever happen"

On less controversial grounds, I really wish someone had been there with a legal concealed carry firearm and had taken him down.

I'm glad you see it this way..

My cousin who graduated first in his class from bowman gray is on his FB soapbox preaching how people with ccw would have just hurt other people and how assault style weapons should be banned, I'm not even going to argue with him about it.. I should, but i'll just let him rant..

to me it is amazing how someone so smart can make such miss informed statement on a public forum

So I scanned through this pretty quickly but didn't see anyone mention that... he was using an AR15 ... not an M16. I haven't been paying a ton of attention to this but I'm pretty sure he was just using an AR15. I haven't heard what brand AR15 he was using either... but they're not all created equal.

And cheap mags or ammunition can cause failures as well.

This thread is pretty dumb.

It also would've helped quelm the anti gun cries.

AR15 and M-16 are both made by colt. One is the full auto, one is the semi. Essentially the same gun.

Did he have a Colt AR-15? I did a quick search couldn't find any information though.

ETA: It appears he may have had a S&W M&P 15, according to something I found on bayoushooter.

Good gun... not entirely the same as a Colt but there's no reason it shouldn't function like one.

I think the drum mag or cheap ammo is more likely to blame.

I read AR-15. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

FWIW My m4 only locked up on my once in Iraq, and it was a bad feed from the magazine, which was fixed when they issued us PMAGs.

But I cleaned mine twice a day when I wasnt on a mission, and loaded her guts up with lube before leaving the wire so maybe that had something to do with it.

wasn't he using a 100 rd drum when it jammed? I believe those are notorious for jamming.

Good shot in the vest could've knocked him down or staggered him

No it would'nt. I'm a .45 guy, I carry one everywhere. I always thought bigger was better, more "knockdown power" My concealed carry instructor opened my eyes to just how weak handguns were, as well as rifles. they do massive damage once inside the body, but have absoloutly no knockdown power. go to 4 min mark

this vid shows how a .44mag and a .308 have zero knockdown power.

I am not trying to start an argument, I agree with you, someone with a ccp might have been able to stop him, or at the very least, maybe saved a few more people.

Here's what I found earlier: Guns used by killer in Aurora

I read another article that said he had one pistol, not two but can't remember where and am too lazy to look further.

It jammed because he was using a drum. Soon as I heard he'd had one I knew that was what happened. They are garbage. Good luck jamming a modern AR with pmags in good shape. Had he been using those he'd have killed half the people in the room.

Had a few concealed carry's been in the room it would have been over quickly.
