Slowest opening morning I can remember in the NW Houston area. Got checked by a warden that said no one was shooting either and that the flood took out a lot of the crops. Only shot 1 white-wing, already called it a hunt. South zone can't get here fast enough.

Our place in the South zone has had 12+ inches of rain since June. I don't think we're going to have much of a dove season.

We've had a lot of rain too, but luckily haven't had that tropical storm type rain blow thru to push them out (yet). My dad went down last weekend and said they were still holding in the area. I'm heading down tomorrow to get everything finished and ready for the opener, even if something does blow thru it will still be better than what we just did.

How many times have you shot?

It's actually picked up in the last hour. Vollied 8 or 9 times, killed 4, lost 2. Total birds seen count of 66. I've shot about a box of shells...

Are u at warren ranch in hockley? Headed there sunday. Guide told me he saw a good amount of birds Monday. Sounded like a war east of my house in huffman this morning.

Not this year, we were a little further out 290 just south of Willis. I know a poster that was out at the warren ranch and he said between him and his buddy I think they shot 6 or 8. He said they saw a decent amount of birds but were set up in the wrong spot or something. I'm hearing better reports from the Katy area but still nobody is really laying into them like last year.

Headed out shortly. Running home to grab the dog and change.

Good luck.
I'm sure I saw some of the birds in my total count more than once, but I was pleased with what I saw and the frequency for opening day. Better than work!
