The feed ban is driving the deer out of the woods. You can drive anywhere in Tensas right now and smash one if you’re hungry. Had a close call with a pretty large 8-10pt Saturday night right outside SJ city limits.

I test any deer I kill in a CWD area, no way I am eating without testing. I also only kill bucks I plan to mount when hunting these areas, no does.

That said, if I have 500k-1M tied up, I lost that deer and am cashing out.

Deer running around Probably has more to do with the rut than lack of food in the woods Bumper acorn crop this year

You think the deer are gonna just starve to death if your feeder that throws a half pound of corn a day isn’t running?

Fair point, Ron. But some of these properties put out tons of feed. Tractor trailer loads.

There has never been a reported case of CWD infection in humans. Never. Hearing the state and federal boys have been doing studies at Winter Quartets and they’re probably going to expand their deer hunting season. Way too many deer on this piece of property.

There was never a jump from MadCow to humans either until there was. I have had a family member die from CJD which is the same thing as CWD which is the same thing as MadCow. The medical professions that deal with CJD, few because it is extremely rare, say the same thing. While there are no for sure documented cases of transfer from infected venison, it definitely can happen and will eventually happen and be documented.

I am not a Dr. so can't explain the details other than the mechanism for transfer of MadCow in beef is the same for CWD in venison. I will say that the transfer is rare, you can eat infected beef/venison and be okay as far as they have seen. One issue with this though is that it takes decades to show symptoms in humans.

True, but several cases of Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease, look it up and see what you think,

Well said. I’ve also heard some scientists throw out the hypothetical of “is it possible some dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s cases are something else?”

I heard that there were some questions on how exactly the owner of Somerset Plantation died recently. That’s in Tensas parish as well.

They're rutting their arse off right now. Happens every year.

Do you take your meat to a processor?

I know this was not directed at me, but I mostly follow the same strategy as GH22. I stopped using a processor with the arrival of CWD.

No doubt. I thought I was on the political board for a while.

Anyone who bought shares in the past 5-10 years are going to be hard pressed to make their money back at this rate.

most of the shares are owned by two-three old men that bought them years ago and kept buying more as others got out. They are using the equity as an investment. If I was in charge of WQ, I would go scorched earth on every deer I saw on the property, knowing the population would recover in five or less years. There's plenty of deer around to backfill. We have friends with Bruin camps across the road from WQ, there are deer every night on the yard cameras eating acorns, roses, etc.

If the prions are in the soil, how does a killing a bunch of deer change things?

Stop the spread now. Those soil prions will get diluted/covered annually on much of WQ.

Edit 2: makes me wonder if WQ ever imported any out of state “seed bucks” to build their brand value????

100% they did.

Oof. That’s a bad look! And a colossal waste of money.
