I'm considering getting 4-wheel drive on my next truck, but my question for you guys that own them, how often do you really need/use it?

I use it fairly often, but the best thing about 4wheel drive is when you really need it, you have it. You'll know what I'm talking about when the day comes.

Best to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. My gets used more for snow than mud.

Trucks look better that are 4x4 but it will decrease your gas mileage 1-2 mpg's and it is an extra thing to maintain, but your truck will have a better resale value.

If you want it get it...if you have made it this long without 4 wheel drive there is a good chance you could live without on your next truck but its all about what you want really.

use ours at the boat ramp and thats about it.

My truck is 2wd and there have been countless times I needed 4wd. I'll never own another 2wd truck

depending on where you live, what you do, etc, it can be handy. i use mine 1-2/mo prob on average. previously i had posi-track rear end and that let me get places normal 2wd couldn't go. if i thought i may have a problem i would use my 4 wheeler.

use it all the time, but could be because it's a diesel and they get stuck in 2wd like a fat kid in quick sand.

Similar experience here - now I own two 4WD's.

This....my previous truck was a 2wd F350. I like having 4x4 as a just incase thing now.

I use it on steep boat ramps (dont launch at those very often) just in case. Haven't been in the mud in a long time though. I run mine every month for about a mile/ mile .5 just to keep things in working order.
Just one of those things I would rather have it, and not need it that need it and not have it.

ETA: Resale value is higher also FWIW

4x4 and crew cabs are two options that dont drop value from purchase to resale so why not?

That would be my primary reason. I have a 22'-6" Skeeter that I pull and have had a little trouble at some particular launches with my 2-wheel drive.
