Between now and Jan I’m looking to buy a new 3/4 Diesel truck. Ford, Chevy, Ram? Currently in a 2018 GMC Sierra SLT.

I went Ford because I think they are the best looking on the outside and the 6.7 seems to be much better than the 6.4 but they are starting to get a little dated on the inside.

Haven’t been much of a GM Adam since the 90’s but the new GMC 3/4 looks pretty damn good.

Buying new? Scratch ram off the list. They are using the CP4 fuel pump which is a POS and wipes out about 10k worth of stuff when it dies. If buying used stick to 18 and older, which has the bomb proof CP3 and makes the engine a giant checkmark in the Ram column. I have an 18 and other than spending two weeks in the shop before making 15k miles and having a small fuel tank, its great.

I prefer the Ford to the Chevy because the truck as a whole is far better equipped IMO. 48 gal fuel tank is standard in the long bed models if you'll be towing thats a big deal. It does use the CP4 fuel pump also which is still a POS in the Ford, but they did improve the filtration significantly in '19 and failures have been way down.

Eta: if that pump fails the cab is coming off and your bill will be 9-12k dollars and Ford will probably not cover it. That alone is the sole reason I couldn't bring myself to buy one.

I cant find anything I dont like about the new Chevy. Only rode in one towing a few times but they seem like good setups. I just prefer the bigger fuel tank and straight axle on the Ford. I think Chevy has the most reliable package out right now.

People will y’all shite about you, but I love my Ram 2500. Does everything I need with all the conveniences of a luxury vehicle.

Nothing wrong at all. It’s 1/2 ton and I’m upgrading to a 5th wheel for my camp in Grand Isle. My Sierra is not gonna handle the size 5th wheel we’re buying.

I’m pleased with my 2020 Chevy 2500. The 10 speed is smooth like butter. The only catch is if you ever wanted to delete, it’s expensive.

I have a 2020 Duramax. It’s my 4th and by far my favorite one. I use my truck for hunting and pulling skid steer. It gets put to work and I couldn’t be happier. I think the GMC rides better than Ford. Ford would of been my second choice.

No. It had lots of problems and I found the one I have now brand new and got a good enough deal on it to not lose much getting rid of the Ford.

Isn't everyone using the cp4 pumps now? Fwiw they changed the design of the cp4.2 supposedly second half of last year from asymmetrical lobe design to symmetrical. I think post-august rams have them, you can tell by the markings on the case

Was just about to ask the same. I have a 19 and the only issue I’ve had to this point is on starting, sometimes it acts like the battery is almost dead or the starter is going out. Nada other than that at 37k miles. Well it’s a rough arse ride, but no other Mech issues.

Back door and back seat rattled unrepairably, backup camera intermittently quit or did weird things, transmission made a big loud suspect clunk getting on the interstate. Probably all things that would have been fixed by ford but I found the 18 ram which is what I originally wanted and got a decent deal on it since it was brand new and 2 years old.

I had an '18 F250 single cab before the '19 4 door and the '18 was fantastic.

Ah OK. Family member had a cp4 failure on a duramax which made me think they all converted, didn't realize gm got smart and ditched it

I got a 2015 F250 Gasser and it’s been great. When the 6.2l dies, I’ll either replace the engine or upgrade to the new Godzilla 7.3l. I can take it into the Ford Quick Lane and get an oil change service for around $70.00
