How did you find the smooth earth snake and what's going on with the ribbon's neck?

Flipped it under a log. They are a fossorial snake, so just like the ringnecks you tend to find them under stuff.

I found a smooth earth snake two days ago under a large piece of bark in my yard. Didn't know what it was until just now. You are nuts brah

Awesome.
I’ll pretty readily handle a non venomous snake but I do not think I could I force myself to pick up a cottonmouth or other viper unless there was some very good reason to, such a reason that I can’t imagine. Like if someone had a gun to my kids head or something.

Don't tell us anymore that non venomous snakes are "harmless". We see the blood on your hands and fingers from these "harmless" snake bites! If the Good Lord meant for us to pick up legless reptiles, he woulda put a handle on them. But he didn't.

I won't anymore. Just too easy to have a tiny lapse in concentration at my age to risk it for basically zero benefit.

Not half as much as we were hoping for one.

I used to run into them quite a bit when I was a kid growing up in DeSoto Parish. Even had one crawl across the floor in my bedroom once and I thought it was a crawfish.

We have had a problem with them around my house in South Arkansas. They seem to like pine plantations and they get on the move any time there's cutting going on. They just cut 20 acres right beside me so I'm anticipating lots of scorpions this summer.

Those were a couple main targets for us in Florida, along with tri-colors. We hit the right areas but just struck out. We road cruised near where a 17’10” burmese was caught. While we were shining along the road, a couple guys stopped and talked to us - they were clueless about snakes but showed us a photo of a scarlet snake they saw while fishing just a bit earlier near where we were. They thought it was a coral snake. He also once “accidentally” found an 8 ft. burmese there.
At the spot where we got the corn & blue-striped garter, a couple riding bicycles told us they just saw an eastern diamondback in another part of the park. An area we got ran out of also confirmed that they see them there.
At the research center, a lady we spoke to said they had a coral snake and an indigo that hung out near the parking lot.
In Louisiana we were mostly hoping for a mud snake. One of the guys we hunted with one night got a mud right after we turned him down for joining him that night. Another spot we hunted with another guy, right after we headed to Florida he got muds on back to back nights right where we hunted them multiple nights.
A lot of it was just a case of right place, wrong time for us. Also a lot of areas we hit were just not at the best time of day because we had so many areas across Florida to hit. And neither of us had ever hunted Florida before so it was all new territory to us. We’d have a better game plan if we did it again.

I was just in that area last week, drove through Plank Road state forest trying to find wildlife, but didn't see much. I love that area around the St. Marks river. Its wild, and prehistoric looking.

Safe to assume you have at least one snake at home as a pet?
