2017-18 Bowhunting Thread
With the season just around the corner, parts of Louisiana opening shortly (September 16 for SWLA), and places like Kentucky with the season already open, I wanted to start a season long bowhunting thread. A place where fellow archers can ask questions, brag, whatever.

I know we have some avid bowhunters on this board so this should be a fun thread to keep up with.

re: 2017-18 Bowhunting Thread
So since we're 18 days out, I'm going to do a little write up, for yall, about my plan for the first week. We lease some land out in extreme Western Oklahoma and we will be leaving the day before the opener to hunt for 8 days (10/1-10/8) then drive back on the 9th. Last year was me and Dad's 1st year hunting out here but it was a blast. We killed 3 does and could have gotten more. This year I am making an effort to get a couple of does but also work on trying to shoot a buck.

Here is the property layout. Red pins are my stands, Blue pins are Dad's stands, and Green pins are spots we are likely to hunt but haven't set anything up yet. As you can imagine, my dad and I are allowed to hunt each other's stands, this is just a way to distinguish them lol

#1 is my "main stand" (as of now) and a stand that I set last year on a fence line. Access is from the well site which makes it ideal to get in without disturbing anything. I killed 2 does off of this stand and have a camera out there now taking pictures, hopefully lets me know if any bucks are walking down that line at any time. This is a picture of that stand and the view from it.

#2 is a spot I am very excited about. We put the stand up a month ago but there is a lot of sign and it is a quiet corner of the lease. There was a decent buck we had on camera a little further north of this spot, last season. I think there will be a lot of movement through this corner.

#3 is a lock-on I had in a cedar tree that was so well hidden, you could have done jumping jacks in the tree and the deer wouldn't have seen you. Problem is, I only saw 1 deer, a 4pt, from the stand in 2 hunts. I think I was hunting it on the wrong wind. I expected deer to travel north onto the property but now I believe they are bedded north of that location. First time hunting a property mistake. The Green pin to the east is a potential move spot depending on sign.

The Ground Blind also has me excited (see a trend?). The trees there are about 15' tall but branch off at the ground and you can't get a stand in them. There is a creek running through them and a few major crossings. When we get there I plan on setting the blind up there with a camera and trying to hunt it later in the week.

Oklahoma allows 1 fall turkey tag and I plan on trying to get that filled, the place is loaded with birds. We killed 4 in the spring.

There are other guys hunting with us on the place, so if you see spots that look like ideal places but can't figure out why there aren't pins there, that's your answer.

Looking forward to my second year with the bow. What an incredibly frustrating and fun sport. I was fortunate to shoot a doe on my third sit ever with the bow, hoping for more of the same luck this year.

I've been eyeing a Hoyt bow for about 10 years now.
But I just don't have the time to put into it... when I can sit for 2-3 days around Thanksgiving and Christmas and get my meat for the year.

So pumped that opening Sunday of bow isn't squirrel season in area 6. It'll be nice getting a weekend hunt in with no one else in the woods

Sept. 30 for me in Nawf Miss. This is a new place for me to hunt. My buddy has several stands and I plan to use my climber a lot.
We planted a couple food plots, and put out 3 or 400 lbs of salt over the last month. I am ready!

Good meeting you, Diesel, and Redneck at the Brew Bus Tailgate.

Good Luck Baws!

Picked up my bow to shoot the other day after it sat all spring and summer in the case, and it is consistently off about 4" to the right.

Taking off tomorrow to bring it in a get fixed

re: 2017-18 Bowhunting Thread
Im so sick of hanging lock ons. I have a double millennium in the perfect spot for a bow stand. Id hate to take that heavy bitch down and hang a lock on there, but don't want to have 2 stand in the same spot. The big one is just too hard to get drawn in.

Other than that I have a few culls on camera I wanna hunt, 2 mature shooters, and one that may go in the 130" range. Id be thrilled with just shooting a bunch of pigs though

Speaking of, I really wish they would make it legal to shoot pigs with a rifle while bow hunting.

The two closest to the camera are 4-5. Not sure if they were 2 or 3 when I started getting pics 2 years ago. The bigger one in the back is a shooter even if his breath still smells like milk

Gonna reserve this spot for (hopefully) a decent kill. Good luck, OB! Bring on the cool weather, fires, and camp life.

I'll adjust your sight for 20 bucks

Shot my bow for the first time in 8 months last week, probably going to sling as many as I can stand today. This weather is making it hard to sit in the office.

You'd have been out of place if you hadn't.

Best time of the year. I can't wait to get in a tree again...with thermacell rolling hard.

Went and did a little tune up on some pigs last weekend with the bow. Just made the anticipation worse!

You need to call me when y'all head to Woodville over the next few weekends and we can swing by my dad's old place and pick up those stands.

First year deer hunting in about 5 or 6 years, first year with a bow.

Any other public land guys on here? Will (hopefully) be hitting Sherburne on the 1st myself.

I told myself I was going to try to throw a stand up on some public land by the house but with the lease being 2 hours away, I likely won't end up doing it. We'll see

re: 2017-18 Bowhunting Thread
Now I want to start shooting again. Haven't bow hunted in a couple years..

Those Oklahoma pics look like a dream bow setup.

How did ya'll go about leasing property there? I look at huntingleasenetwork and basecamp all the time and they have tons of leases out there, it's just tough committing to a lease over the internet.
