re: Replica Mount for Speckled Trout

No, I actually walked the fish to the boat to meet the guide that had a net. She had it choked and wasn’t fighting a ton so I just kept tension and took my time walking 30 or so yards. The captain freaked out when he saw her and jumped in to finish the job with the net. We once we had her secure, we were very careful with her to make sure she was in good shape for release. My buddy stuck one almost 7 within a minute of me catching this one so he did the same thing and we were able to get pictures of them both and release them together.

I caught her in Laguna Madre in Port Mansfield. Our best 5 went over 35 pounds and best 10 was over 64 pounds over two days, all on top water with the exception of a few fish. I was unprepared for how many fish we were going to catch. Our 4 guys probably caught 100 trout and 20-30 reds each day. That place is special and we are going back this December.
Thanks for the recommendations, I decided to go with New Wave for my replica. It will be about a year before I get it, but it’s worth it for a fish of a lifetime!
The Derry Girls on Netflix is great

I recently caught a giant 30 1/4” inch 9 pound trout and a good friend on the same trip caught one 29” that went 7.7 pounds. Any recommendations for someone in southeast Louisiana to do a replica mount for us? I’m not opposed to get one shipped if that is a viable option.

You can go on Joe’s instagram or Facebook to see a bunch of the other fish, it’s a very unique fishing ecosystem and the deer down there are ridiculous, my god. The first day, the bucks were chasing does between the houses and cars like they were not even there. We are talking about 150+” inch deer.

He was shaking more than me because I didn’t know how special the fish was until it hit the board. He’s a great dude to fish with.

I’ll post a full recap of the trip with pictures when I get home, but we had two unreal days of fishing. I broke the dirty thirty this morning with a 30 1/4” 9 pound trout this morning. Overall, our four guys caught a 9, a 7.7, and six more fish over 6 and almost all of them were on top water. We all broke our PB’s.

Three of my buddies and I are headed to Port Mansfield in the morning to fish for a couple days with Joe Prado. Has anyone been on a trip down there? We are all proficient fishermen and I’m pretty jacked up to have a chance to catch a trophy class trout. I will post pictures and a review when I get back in town.

I went Tuesday to Shell Beach and blasted the specks. The shrimp/fish were loaded in the cuts off Lake Borgne. The wind has been blowing like crazy the last few days so I don’t know how that will affect everything but the fish want to be there gorging on shrimp. The wind should be ok Saturday but the tide is a little wonky. You won’t need live shrimp if you find the fish, they are hungry and will eat plastics just fine.

Nola Hunt and Fish out of the Rigolets is really good. I know the guys that run it and they are as good as it gets. I think they still stay in a camp on Lake Catherine and you will run crap traps and jug lines for gar if you want as well. They run lines and do open water hunts. They also have access to a very large piece of marsh.

I played Gullane 1 and 2, the Renaissance, and North Berwick this year. The courses of East Lothian are unbelievable and I loved it. I also took a look around the clubhouse of Muirfield and the history was a must do.

He actually won the 2nd event of the year on Lake Norman with the NPFL. A bunch of the old school guys seem to really like the NPFL with the no scoping.

re: Scott Martin just quit BASS

The DQ from the Big O was rather egregious from listening to the other anglers that are familiar with the situation and have spoken out about it. Even though the info he got was 3 months before the tournament, he actively participated and sought info during the no info window and it was caught on film. That’s an instant DQ no matter how you read the rules. BASS let him save face on that one but he was under a microscope.

The rumor is it was him or Matt Robertson which would make sense. The reality is that anglers are supposed to report rule infractions or they can be subject to penalties as well. I don’t dislike Scott Martin but it sounds like he has made a career out of bending the rules and it’s no secret amongst his peers. Anglers wanted a level playing field and they BASS is making the hard decisions.

Guys like Hackney, Swindle, Gufsafson and Feider have gone on podcasts in the last month and all been very open about how they feel about the Scott Martin’s DQ at Okeechobee. They all have said that he has a history of doing the same thing for years. I was pissed that BASS allowed Scott Martin to control the narrative and he claimed that he self reported, he certainly did not and he asked for info on video.

He decided to quit Bass to save face because he was about to get DQ’d for asking for info during the off limits for the second consecutive event. He can step back and focus on social media and be fine but his credibility as a professional angler is shot. From listening to other anglers, this was a long time coming, as he has a long history of bending/breaking rules. BASS has had a rough couple of years but atleast they didn’t show favoritism toward one of their biggest stars.

House and Senate?

Posted by gonzo03 on 11/5/24 at 8:35 pm
With Trump running up decent margins, what are the realistic expectations for these races. I thought 53 was close to the cap for the Senate and the House would be close but we may see some Republicans get pulled across the finish line. Any guesses?
