This is my thinking. I have not killed a big enough archery buck to pass up a 140, regardless of what has been spotted on camera.

The problem is that you are going to have to retrieve the 140 if you kill it. There is a very good chance you are going to blow the 200 out of the area when you do. I won’t shoot a doe in an spot that I’m getting good buck pictures for that very reason.

I made this mistake once, many moons ago. Never again.
Late morning hunt during the rut. Had a good one on camera in a draw that he frequented during the rut/pre rut. Just before getting down for lunch (11:50 or so)doe comes down the trail by her lonesome. I thump her at 10 steps and she runs about 30 yds before piling up. As I'm giving her time to pass a the 135 or so I was after comes down the same trail. Evidently she was in heat and they had been doing the nasty because he was dead on her trail. Before getting to me he gets a wiff of her and turns to where she piled up . Walked over to her , checked her out and after a minute eased off into the thick stuff. I had no shot and just sat there watching him from 35 yds helpless, and fricked because of my own stupidity. If I had passed her up he would have walked right under me for a backbone shot and another Pope on the wall.
Not to mention I never saw him again, most likely due to my scent in that draw from dragging her out.

Painful lesson to learn.

Big difference between a doe and a 140” buck. Regardless, that would be one hell of a decision to have to make.

I agree on does, during the rut. Usually try to get my doe shooting done early.

Haven't done much bow hunting the last 5 years due to turnarounds typically going from September to November. Hadn't shot the bow in over a year so I broke it out yesterday.

Took about 3 dozen to knock the rust off but got it back dialed in. Tore up the fletchings on two arrows then did this. RIP lumenok I'll stretch it out to 45-50 when I get to the camp with some more real estate to shoot this weekend.

I am ready to roll. Not really sure what to expect. New ground and I didn't get any cameras out. Hoping to see something. Plan to shoot the first doe in range.

I shot a doe one time with a rifle and as she was running 20 yds to pile up a buck came running out and tried to mount her where she was kicking. They piled up within 20 yds of each other.

It was dumb luck, but I'll count it.

Weather forecast for Sunday sucks!! East wind, 70 degrees at 6 AM, possible rain early where I'm hunting. Add in the fact that it's 4 days before the full moon...frick.

My hopes are definitely not too high for Sunday. Be happy just to see something.

Got me a fat nanny yesterday evening at n SouthArk. Back up the tree this morning. Nothing quite like slowly bringing that bow up and watching it pass through. Good luck to y’all this weekend and stay safe!!

Just let a doe walk, because I saw a buck behind me. He disappeared. Next doe is getting smoked.

Got 2 sits in so far and nothing. Headed back to the camp tomorrow through Monday. Weather is looking pretty shitty, but can't kill them from the couch.
