This is the truth. Some are happy to go back to their homes, I have on many occasions dreaded going back to town.

Awesome trip!
However being a long range junkie tell us more about your rifle. What caliber did you decide on? How much does it weigh? I have been looking at a long range sport rifle for a while. My bench guns work great in deer stands but not so much stalking.

7mm rem mag
I'm a touch over 8.5 lbs with a Nightforce 5.5-22x50
Shooting Gunwerks 168 grain VLD ammo
I shaved about 22 oz off of a "normal" Gunwerks with fluting and titanium options.

Awesome set up! I've gotten to shoot a few Gunwerks rifles they are tack drivers. Just can't make up my mind on a direction on a non bench/sporting long range rifle. I've got it narrowed down to about six people to build it though.....

Thanks. I spent a month talking to about 6 different builder/manufacturers. For someone like me to show up and hit a 1000 yd plate says enough. If I'm spending "x" on a hunt I'm giving myself every advantage to come home with a harvest. It was worth it for me to buy their knowledge and experience.

Haha. I would have probably been better off if I would have hated it

Thanks for the pics. That's something definitely on my bucketlist-that type of hunt. Which brings me to a question. Would a 270 pull off a shot like that for an elk? 150 grain? I have been debating getting a 7 or 300 for big, but people keep telling me no need for elk as I already have a 270. Never been elk hunting, but def will eventually.

I know others in here are much more versed on that subject. There was a guy hunting the week before us with a 270. He killed a bull at 200 yds. That's about all I can tell you with certainty. Shot placement
The guides said they always suggest the 300. Elk are some tough animals. Especially if you need to reach out and get one.

Yes absolutely. While you won't have the nock down power of some of the larger rounds, it will kill an elk dead the shot is all about putting the bullet where it has to go, do that and most rifles are capable of killing a elk.

I believe that the road will lead back to Jackson, WY next September...

That's awesome. Congrats on a successful trip.
That is definitely my favorite area of the country. I've been out with a few guides during the summer and they all seem like they love their job. Part of me would love to do one of those hunts while I'm up there, but at the same time, I wouldn't.
I will tell you that I know without a doubt that taking a big bull out there would not mean as much to me as picking up a 6 by shed the day after my birthday last year, 2 months after shed season began. Undescirable joy is the only way I know how to put it. And that was 5 minutes after we watched a bull moose just hanging out and grazing for 5-10 minutes. That part of the world is just fricking awesome. Go any time you get the opportunity.
