I'd definitely add the 1100 to that list.

Clean it every now and then and you'll never have an issue. Same as any other auto.

They're all fine guns.

Already have an 1100, I can shoot better with an 1100 than I can any other gun Ive ever shot. Only problem is it does not shoot 3". About 10 years ago I bought the 870 supermag that shoots all 2.75, 3, & 3.5 to hold me over until I could afford a quality semiauto. Now I can afford to buy one, but cant seem to make up my mind on which one.

I have had a Beretta 390 silver mallard for 10 years. It has not let me down one single time. it gets cleaned once a year and has never jammed.

If i had to replace it tomorrow, i'd go with another Beretta.

Get a B gun that fits you end of story, old rems are fine (they are made like a B gun) - new ones are stamped and you get what you pay for. I was talking w a trap shooter - he has run 100K+ rounds thru a 391 - one broken part and cleans it 2X per yr.

When you go to Mexico or Argentina, this is what you will see. No telling how many K's of rounds those things fire in a year.

[quote] Among those choices -- the Beretta A400. Then you still have to decide which model, bbl length, etc. I shoot several cases throgh mine before I bother to clean it. You'll probably treat yours better, but the point is they just don't jam. The Berettas (and probably most other guns) come with a set of shims to let you adjust the fit (drop and cast), so I wouldn't pay too much attention to which gun "off the rack" fits best. A400 also comes with swivel studs that allow you to attach a sling.

This.

The A400 is the one I "want to want" the most. The problem is, it pulls up the worst. While the SBE2, Maxus, SX3, and VM all pull up great. Is the SBE2 really worth the +$500 over the SX3, or +$300 over Maxus?

Ok so that pulls the A400 out of the equation. On the other question, you are going to get a lot of personal opinions. The SX3 is a great gun, I think its browning guts in winchester clothing? Considering the price point you really cant beat it. Have you handled the new A5 also?

A5 pulls up good too. I'm skeptical to buy one because they are so new, not enough reviews and opinions yet. 2nd, I have an old remington 16ga that is the same humpback style, I am not nearly as accurate with it compared to the 1100 and 870. I have no idea why, it lines up good, just bad results on the shot. Thats why I left A5 out, and I already have too many I cant pick from - dont need to throw in another.

Completely understand. If you are going to drop the cash, you want to be confident in it for sure.

I've got an old 70's model 1100 that was my Dad's. He gave it to me when I was in high school, but told me it wouldn't shoot 3" shells. I bought a new barrel for it from Cabela's (don't remember brand) and it shot 3" like a champ. Still have it and shoot it occasionally. If you're not set on buying a new gun that may be an option.

Update: Sorry-Long

I went ahead and bought the SX3 this weekend. Bass Pro had a deal I could not pass up. They had a deal for guns and gun safes, an additional 10% off plus no sales tax (local and state) if you started a Bass Pro Credit Card. Gun was on sale for $950, then with 10% off and no tax I was $855 out the door, and I will get back $45.00 in rewards. I'm pretty happy with that deal.

Yesterday I ran five boxes of shells through it. Four boxes of 2-3/4" the cheapest box was estate 1oz. then a box of rem 1oz. a box win 1-1/8oz. and a box of rem 1-1/8oz. Then I ran half a box of 3" #4 win Xpert Steel Shot and half a box of 3.5" Win Xpert #BB.

The gun fired and cycled every round flawlessly. I was really happy when it went through that box of estate's. I was not quite as accurate as I am with my 1100, but toward the end I was hitting most of my targets.

What SX3 did you get? Camo, black or wood? That is a great deal too. I am trying to sell my SX 2 to buy the SX3 now.
Congrats!

points great. I will have a full review at the end of January if I duck hunt any this year.

I'm in same boat, maybe a weekend or two.

SBE2 is a bad mofo, but I have a want for the new A5 for nostalgia more than anything. And I will be able to give preliminary report early Nov I hope.

I got the black. I'm not a big fan of camo guns, plus I have a buddy who lost his in the marsh, he set it down looking for a cripple and never found it. Says he looked for it days. I really want a wood gun but they do not make it in the 3.5" version. Maybe I can swap someone with the 3" version - if they are interchangable.
