Tikka T3x Hunter Stainless (if you like a wood stock) or Stainless Lite/Superlite (if you prefer synthetic) in either 270 or 6.5x55. I believe Sportsman Warehouse has both of those options available right now and they'll run you right around $1000. Throw some Warne medium rings and a Leupold VX Freedom or VX-3 on there and you'll have a fine setup. You could get a T3x synthetic with blued barrel and the Leupold VX Freedom for around $1000 together.

I also like the idea of a Weatherby Vanguard in 257 Wby, but ammo will be quite pricey and that gun will be much heavier than a Tikka. Those factors may not matter, but worth noting for comparison.

Sauer 100 7mm08 150gr will kill every thing in North America at proper range.

Sauer rifles are extremely accurate and Heirloom type rifles

also Mauser

Never disagreed with any of that, but that’s the point. It does everything the 7rm does slightly better while eliminating the few things that were a pain in the arse about the 7rm, and that’s going to be enough to keep ammo on the shelf.

It does, but in a factory rifle. Remington and Browning have an 8 twist 7mm rem mag. If you compare those to the PRC, the 7mm rem mag will be equal if not beat it due to more case capacity.

If I could have got better brass than Hornady I would have thought hard about a prc in my custom rifle but brass won't be available for quite awhile.

But only if you handload, which takes the single biggest advantage the rem mag has off the table. PRC factory ammo is gonna take advantage of the higher pressure rating, where the lawyers won’t let 7rm come close.

Bergara B14 in whatever caliber suits you. Or a tikka t3x. Remington 700 if you want just plain jane. But do your research and try to find someone with a rifle for you to test out and shoot before just getting one and then hating it

Anything except tikka T3 in the less than $1000 price bracket is the wrong answer
and you could argue that it is true for every price bracket. Simple as that. It's by far the best value going in rifles.

Excellent accuracy, excellent reliability, very light weight.

gun shop today and found a pre-owned B-14 HMR in 6.5 CR

Did they give you the rebate for the tracking services so you can find the deer?! Jk just make sure you buy hunting ammo if you can find them either Barnes tsx or hornady fusion.

Been playing with my new one at the range the past 2 weeks, it's fun. Hornady precision hunter 143gr is what I plan to hunt with, it is very consistent. Still playing around with what to use as range/sighting-in ammo. Hornady black was ok, Winchester xp deer season 125gr was pretty consistent. I might get some Winchester copper stuff since they have a 20% mail-in rebate going for the next few months.

It’s a fine choice. That coming from a tikka owner.

Not really pointed at you but just a general comment, that bullet is what makes a lot of people hate on the 6.5cr. A long range bullet designed to expand at long range and slower velocities shot at 75yd in a pine thicket. The deer die in 75yds but leave zero blood and people swear they don’t work.

Those rounds shoot well, but don’t hunt with them. Go with a TSX or accubond. I shoot tsx through mine. It’s just as accurate as the precision hunter, but a lot more effective on deer.

Based on experience with both hitting a deer? I'm open to advice, will look at both. I figure something with a tip designed to fail on impact is going to lead to expansion, and the 143 grain was the heaviest I could find as well.

Rokslide.com has a lot of threads with people complaining about that exact load not doing well on game.

Every ammo I've ever looked at has some bad reviews. That said, I spend 4 minutes looking on rokslide and now I have homework to research bonded vs. non and other things. Any suggestions for sites with a good breakdown of bullet types for different applications?

I'm shooting white tail inside 200, so maybe it'll be an easy answer. The one time I shot my 30-06 at a deer with Winchester XP, it fell down. The rest of my kills are with the muzzleloader.

Only thing you should research is reputable bloodhound breeders near you

You just have to know going in that the bullet is going expand rapidly as it’s a ballistic tip.

It will grenade under 200-300 yds and most likely won’t have an exit wound.
