Kind of unlucky for us that Sweden finished all the way down as a 7 seed. That’s probably who we’ll play Wednesday.

yeah that is unfortunate, they will probably kill Latvia.

Sweden still has third best odds to win gold

Yep. Team USA got the worst draw of any of the four teams that earned a bye into the quarterfinals.

However, if we win that game, we will likely play Slovakia in the semifinals while Canada/Finland play on the other side.

It's a three horse race. And the Canadians look above everyone.

The Czechs and Slovaks have fallen quite a bit in recent years, while the Germans, Swiss, and Danes have dramatically improved.

USA definitely got the worst draw

Sweden is incredibly dangerous and is gold medal caliber even if they haven't looked it so far. Hopefully their goaltending shows up like it did in the first two games bc Gustavson was damn awful.

Hate to say it but Canada looks unstoppable thus far.

It's going to look that way when you play a team like France. They haven't looked any better than the USA outside of that.

Even Finland had an 11-0 win, but it was against another terrible team, in Italy. Those just aren't hockey countries.

Yeah, they have

They destroyed Czechia and Switzerland who are both far better teams than anyone the US has played so far. They also never had any questionable moments like the US did for 2/3 of the game v Denmark

I'm not saying US has no chance, but it's objective that Canada has looked better even throwing out the France game.

It should be a fun knockouts

I agree that the Canadians look a few ticks above the US.

Matthews and Eichel have to be better than they have been, and they've both been really good already.

The Mack Attack of McDavid, MacKinnon, and Celebrini is just world-class. And Crosby is still a fantastic player.

Gotta get past Sweden to see it. And that's a tall task.

USA girls have gone an Olympic record 300+ minutes without giving up a goal. Even if Canada wins their semifinal we already beat them 5-0 in preliminaries. Is there a more dominating performance at this Winter Olympics?

I guess if any it’d be that Klaebo skier from Norway if he swept every event he was in.

ETA killing Sweden… 3 goals in a few minutes, up 5-0 now

Granted, I know nothing at all about Women’s hockey historically, but this has to be the greatest women’s hockey team of all time right? I mean outscoring their opponents 31-1 here at the Olympics, soon to be 5-0, and has not allowed a goal in over 330 minutes of play once this one wraps up.

I mean the second best women’s hockey team in the world by far, is Canada and we beat them 5-0 with ease. Outshooting our opponents by something like 160-170 shots in a 5 game stretch.

This is the second generation of the US Women's hockey team. To give you some perspective, the University of Minnesota didn't even have a NCAA women's program until 1997. I think this is the best roster structure in USWHT history. It benefits from having an American league so these athletes can compete yearly instead of regrouping after being scattered to the wind every 4 years. These girls grew up having the Olympics to shoot for which gives them a head start on where the 1st generation was growing up.

The only negative about this tournament has been NBC shoving Jason Kelce (and his "media whore" wife) down our throats.

The link for the schedule on Page 1 was misleading then. It just shows the Peacock app and NBC website for a live feed. I later discovered USA is showing some replays at 8:00 or so at night since I'm at work when the games are on live.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this. The Kings playoff chances just took a big hit.

quote:

Kevin Fiala will miss the remainder of the NHL regular season for the Los Angeles Kings due to fractures in his left lower leg.

The 29-year-old forward was injured while playing for Team Switzerland in a 5-1 loss to Team Canada at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 on Friday.

Fiala was hit into the side boards by Canada forward Tom Wilson, who then fell on his left leg at 17:10 of the third period. Fiala, who was lying on his stomach on the ice, was able to get up onto his elbows but did not move his lower body. He was then transported to the hospital.

Fiala had 40 points (18 goals, 22 assists) in 56 games this season for the Kings, who entered the Olympic break three points behind the Anaheim Ducks for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.

SIAP but when I read this way down in an ESPN article, I thought it needed attention.

How long have you been watching hockey? Czechia is not very good anymore, and the Swiss are certainly not better than Denmark or Germany, and are marginally better than Latvia. Czechia, on paper, despite not being very good, at least appears that it would be the best team that either Canada or the US have played so far, and the shot differential in that game was much closer than any of our games have been.

The US has dominated every game, and it it weren't for goals being disallowed and some bad luck, the scores could all have been much worse. Watching the games, objectively, Canada isn't doing anything that the the US isn't. Sometimes I think people just expect to lose to Canada, and they overreact to everything they do. Maybe that isn't the case with you, but I get that sense from a lot of people.

When the knockout stage starts, we're going to see a lot less tinkering, and lot more of our top players on the ice, with other guys like Miller and Trocheck getting more typical 4th line minutes. I think whatever concerns people have about shaky moments (which I think have already been overblown) will be cleaned up once that happens.

Another thing to remember is that the Canadians think that everything hockey related is their birthright, and they're always under pressure to perform. I'm not sure the intensity level is the same for our players when they are playing against heavily inferior opponents. I expect that to change drastically, as well.
