Maybe I’m being harsh but I see zero problem with eliminating people who decide to live this lifestyle. Kinda like what animal shelters do to strays that can’t be adopted. What’s the difference?

They didn't start out like that.
Some are piece of shite drug addicts who never gave a damn about anyone but themselves. However, there are a lot of people who have had bad luck, grew up in abusive child homes, got injured and addicted to opiates, had no parents at all...the stories are endless. Some people would benefit greatly from a bit of help and something to work toward.
The problem is the social system in this country was gutted and there is no apparatus that is actually identifying the problem and implementing a real solution. Ignoring it or being repulsed by it won't make it go away.

Different part of LA, but I drove to a jobsite in downtown LA and within 2-3 miles I saw:
A small fire
2 separate shopping carts full of stuff blocking a lane of traffic

I understand you might be a child of privilege still in their 20s, with little awareness of the real world and the fragility of the human condition . All I can do is pray for your soul in the hope that you might develop a shred of decency and learn to respect human life.
