In this week episode we sat down with Douglas Robertson, who told us an incredible story of his family travelling around the world in a boat that eventually got shipwrecked in the Pacific Ocean after a killer whale attack.
Douglas explained their survival story and shared what he thinks about his experience when he looks back at it now.
Many thanks to Douglas Robertson for sharing his story!

Incredible.
I wonder if Robin Williams ever told anything about this?
I bet he was always wondering when the family would decide to kill and eat him.

After watching this, I watched a story of a woman abducted and abandoned in the jungle at the age of 4. She learned to survive after being accepted by a troop of monkeys. Incredible story.

Ever hear of Poon Lim?
YouTube-the Story of Poon Lim
Poon Lim Wiki
The Ballad of Poon Lim
Poon Lim was a chinaman, who set out on the sea,
‘Til a U-boat sank his ship, leaving a sole survivor he,
All alone out on the ocean on a raft made from debris,
Yet he survived and stayed alive, for days one hundred thirty-three,
He was working as a steward on a British Merchant ship,
Bound from Cape Town to New York, but she would not complete her trip,
For a Kraut torpedo tore, a ragged hole, into her side,
In two minutes she went down, and all aboard but Poon had died,
Left afloat, he found a raft, some fresh water and pack,
With a flashlight and provisions, pemmican and old hard tack,
But after thirty days at sea, unfound and running out of rations,
From the innards of the flashlight, some crude fishing hooks he’d fashion,
Collecting water on his roof, and catching fish with bits of bread,
He knew he’d have to eat some meat, or he would surely end up dead,
So he made a crafty trap, a nest of seaweed from the hull,
And when the bird came down to eat, he snapped the neck of a seagull,
Poon was not a swimmer strong, so tethered by a hempen length,
But after sixty days he’d learned to swim to keep his strength,
Then came an awful storm, that wrecked his raft and his supplies,
He made repairs, did not despair, this fearless Poon that wouldn’t die,
As he subsisted on the fishes, they dripped blood into the water,
Attracting sharks that swam around his craft,
All ready for the slaughter,
Well they meant to make a meal, and tear off Limb from Lim,
But with a hook made from a nail, a shark would make a meal for him,
Several times young Poon was sighted, but alas, no rescue came,
And he felt a mite bit slighted, but undaunted he remained,
Until on day, 133, a boat 10 miles from Brazil,
Plucked him up out of his ordeal, and hungrily he ate his fill,
And his brave tale, it was regaled, and so impressive was his mettle,
The navy taught about his skills, King George awarded him a medal,
So now I’ll end this story, of a sailor boy from China,
Although he might have been a Poon, he was for certain, no vagina.
TL;DR
The story of a man who survived, alone, for 133 days at sea during WW2.
A survivor’s tale.

That story is suspiciously similar to the story of the Essex sinking.

This one got me the other night: "Knot Theory".
Did you know, there are over 350 million unique knots? Yeah me either. And it sounds crazy, but it's actually verifiable with math. And there are maybe an infinite number of knots that have yet to be discovered.

I sure hope he managed to grab some sherry and oyster crackers before he abandoned ship.
