If she's anything like my sister, you'll probably never see your $6,000 again. I'd bring it up once to her and then never again. Consider it an expensive lesson learned.

Is your nephew under 18 and in private school or is he in college?

Exactly. Get off their back. You sound jealous. Worry about your own life.

I need to know why your nephew couldn't get a student loan, especially one that doesn't charge interest while in school.

Let it go. Never lend family money. Either give it to them or don’t.

In Baton Rouge I've seen kids taken away from a parent for sending them to public school.

You knew this was going to happen or you should have. If you were going to lend it you should have just written that money off

If y’all didn’t have a payment plan up front then consider it a gift. Obviously y’all are close, given you loaned her 6k, no sense in making shite awkward. If she ponies up a payment then your ahead of the game because mentally you donated them the money.

Let me guess. He has a single board hanging out the back (sans flag of course) and he bought the truck to take the unpaid-for boat to the lake once every five years?

I'm assuming your sister was able to pay your nephew's tuition in other years. What change in her circumstances occurred for her to be unable to pay it this year?

Money given to family is a gift.

Weren't there tuition refunds when spring classes were cancelled this year?

We bailed out a friend who was being kicked out of her apartment and picked about $1500 of her outstanding bills.
This was over a year ago, haven't been repaid, most likely never will, but on the other hand the friend hasn't gone and spent much either. Barely making ends meet, but most certainly has the money now to repay.
