I work from home and completely understand the devastation this causes for the rest of y’all. a-hole government officials acting like it’s just a quick transition and business will go on as normal should be flogged.

I think many are underestimating the trickle up effect on the economy and also on many of us that can work from home.

I’m not saying that there aren’t less important jobs or a lot of jobs that can’t be transitioned to online, but asses in seats or on the line make the country run. Not schmucks who know how to run zoom.

Bingo. I don’t care if you work from home or not. The majority of those who can work from home are relying or making money on those that can’t. Let the elderly stay home. Use common sense. Wash hands, don’t shake hands, don’t get up in someone’s face to talk, if you’re sick stay home, etc etc.

Plumbers, restaurants, small businesses etc buy insurance, use CPAs, healthcare, banks etc. I laugh at people that think this might not affect them.
I watched dozens of software developers lose their jobs in 2008. They knew how to code and didn't work for a bank.

It's devastating to workers and small business.
Learned that two of my longest held friends are losing jobs because of this. Both great careers, yet the separation might be permenant.
If this goes beyond a couple of weeks, the country will be transformed.

Government issues strong recommendations which wouldn’t be adhered to enough to make a significant difference, so our healthcare system gets absolutely creamed for a few months, and over a million die. Hopefully society would continue to function normally otherwise, but when ambulances take hours instead of minutes, it takes days to remove dead bodies from homes, doctors start dying and just giving up, and it’s near impossible to get decent medical attention, the idea of a civil society would be tested.

This.
Let basic utilities go down (power, water, garbage) and see how long social isolation lasts.
Also this states economy is already going to take a huge hit. If you cut all petrochemical and oil and gas production in half, like someone else said it would transform the area. Not to mention the effect on the supply chain down the line.
To the guy who said “if you do something important in 2020 you can do it from home”....I hope you don’t have the right to vote.
