We worked from home for 7 weeks. From about April 1-May 21st, 2020. Then our CEO said, "Thats it. Everybody back in the office". Which is odd because the guy loves technology and innovation. But that mf'r does NOT want to be working from home around his wife all day.

If I were to receive an after hours work request it would be because I'd screwed up while at work.

But my question is whether or not employers are wrong for making this type of request of their employees? It’s hard to not see the hypocrisy.
I suppose it depends on your position, I don't think it's reasonable for an employer to expect you to come in 9 to 5 and then go home and continue to work as the norm, but if something comes up after hours that needs a quick resolution and your input is needed, I don't really have an issue with that, as long as they don't exploit your willingness to go the extra mile to get the job done

go back to the office if you like your job.

Flex schedule, 9/80 ftw.

So if they want me to do something at home they have to call me and talk to me.
THIS. I've been here 15 years and I have yet to sync my phone to my work email. And there hasn't been a situation yet where something couldn't wait until the next morning.

I made it clear in the OP that this request hasn’t been made by my employer. But I do know that reading is hard, so you are forgiven.

Suck it up buttercup ! Get your arse back to work !

I haven't worked from home short of the first 2 weeks of Covid insanity. Been coming in every day since, like 99% of my peers in my industry.
Go to the office or find a new gig. But without knowing your job, my guess is that a lot of your company's competitors are also likely ending work from home. So consider that.

Yalls bad attitudes about going the extra mile and giving 110% is why they’re replacing y’all with Indians and robots
Once they invent a robot that can wear sweatpants and beat off 7 times a day it’s over for the work from homers

how would you feel about receiving work requests after business hours
I don’t answer those whether I’m working at home or not unless it’s an absolute emergency. Very slippery slope

I don't mind putting in some after hours work if it makes the customer happy but it also depends on who the customer is.

If you are suggesting I can't read you would be wrong.
I just read the title, but certainly not directing the answer specifically toward you.

Funny enough, I actually find it to be the opposite. There are a certain number of companies that tend to operate in the same employee pool. So it appears to me that no one wants to be the first to require people to come back full time because they know they’ll lose a lot of employees to their competitors.
It’s like a game of work from home chicken.

You never mentioned the size of your company you work for.

Well if you want to get/keep young engineering talent in my field, some portion of week has to be allowed wfh. Hybrid is my company’s compromise on that. When we integrate/test, expectation is your arse is on site
my prediction is once the economy hits the next down turn and it fully becomes on employer's environment for jobs, then you will see WFH go away
but as long as the demand for workers exceeds the available workers then some can leave at take other WFH jobs

t00f don’t be crazy. I know you can read. I’m just concerned it’s not higher than a fifth grade level.

Depends what type of person you are.
Any person that’s aggressive and upwardly mobile should want to be in the office and also do any work that needs to be done, regardless of hours.
I can’t imagine being a young professional and whining about after-hours phone calls or emails.
A worker-bee that just wants to clock-in and clock-out, get their COL increase every year and progress little or not at all? Sure. Stay home and ignore emails at 5:01 pm.
When I’m interviewing someone for a management role, if they ask what the hours are, they are out. And not because I take advantage of their time. It’s just a bad mindset.
