Ding Ding, we have a winner. Welfare is killing our population. Stupid people are encouraged and rewarded for breeding to other stupid people.

This gets me. The average salary for a teacher in Louisiana is roughly $48,000. Not going to be rich but also not bad. Especially when compared to the average household income in Louisiana which is $45,000.

Tell me again how teachers don’t get paid shite.

dude, in Lafayette they passed (or at least proposed) to do away with homework. Teachers I heard supported the idea.

frick you and your pass. Most of your ilk is bleeding-heart SJW types who want egalitarianism for all and feel its unfair to demand homework of a kid who has to take care of their siblings (an therefore doesn't have time to do homework- allegedly). So you support lowering standards to accommodate the less fortunate/capable.
frick that.
Educators and the bureaucrats are responsible for these academic retards you are producing. Neither you nor they deserve a pass.

well the market dictates salaries.

Not really since it's a government job and salaries are fixed.

Eta: I think their compensation is more than fair after you add in the lucrative retirement, but market forces aren't at play

Yet they compete against other states and districts

Any teacher who whines about being underpaid should look at other openings. Some States pay very well

There is some competition, but what he said is still untrue. The market does not affect salaries in the sense that unemployment is low, salaries go up, or unemployment is high salaries go down. 10 years ago when the economy was in the shutter salaries weren't adjusted to the market and alternatively salaries haven't shot up in the last 2 or so years like other jobs have.

Because market forces aren't in play.

And realize that they don't pay social security and will be guraunteed a million dollars in retirement or more if they work 30 years.

The person you replied to said that they shouldn't get a pass. I've been teaching for 23 years and have literally NEVER met a teacher who is or was a SJW. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Well, while you are worried about teaching about bias, test scores are dropping because others like you are more concerned with bias rather than math, science, and English.

Well that settles it, they don't exist.

You're a teacher, surely you can understand if you live in Livingston Parish Louisiana there aren't going to be SJW's there, but there are schools in other places.

Or maybe you don't, you do live in LP after all.

teachers bitching about their salary is akin to smokers complaining about breathing problems. You already know what it pays, yet you devote 4 years and the money necessary to obtain a degree in education. you accept a teaching position. then you want to bitch about pay? STFU.

you knew what the pay was before you pursued this. Quit whining about it.

Frick you and your retarded arse post

I have never advocated for any SJW egalitarianism.

The fact you feel the responsibilty for declining performance is based solely on educators makes you a part of this problem. Educators did not get us into this mess...POLITICIANS did when they started turning our lack of global education competitveness into simple soundbites people of your ilk could understand.

I have never supported lowering standards. I love how your vagina became engorged when I spoke about extending the school year. You must have been a superstar in the classroom...

That’s why I teach my kids math the way I want them to learn it.

Same here. My oldest is in 5th grade now and my wife usually helps check her homework. Sometimes she waits until I get home if it is something that needs explained in more detail. I work in finance and my background is accounting. My wife has an accounting degree as well and worked in several different school systems. Last week our daughter was working on long division. I looked at the worksheets and it only halfway made sense. They were learning, for the most part, division with a remainder. So I didn’t push it too far and tell her about decimals and fractions, but she was getting hung up with the breaking down you mentioned, and carrying, and kept getting the same problem wrong but with different wrong answers. Once I broke it down for her better than the common core method it clicked. She then did the entire worksheet over again by writing the problems on a blank sheet and got all of them correct.

You didn’t take hard enough classes in college to meet them then. I agree with you, grade school teachers in the south are pretty much the opposite.

The teachers in PhD fields of the humanities are all SJW, but they’re preaching to the choir, so why wouldn’t they be.

I did really well in school, and I'm big time against lengthening the school year. More time should be spent becoming well rounded in athletics, culture, and society instead of learning how to become a machine.

We function at higher levels and retain more when not burnt out anyway. I would advocate for more of a college like system for all kids, go about 8 weeks and take about 2 weeks off year round continually changing material.
