Would you consider a 6% yearly raise good?

Yes. Anything over 5% is not common...to me anyway. Of course I'm a slack arse too.

Yes. Anything above 3.5% is a solid raise. 6% is real good for a merit only raise

That's very good. Most companies have only given me a 2-3% raise. I usually have to get certifications to get a raise. But I didn't get a raise this year, though I didn't discuss one with the owner. I found a new job that's giving me about a 55-60% raise, working on the type of job I prefer. So 2017 is already looking like it'll be a great year.

My raises in the past have been related to new jobs, job titles, or certifications. This is my first "merit" only or yearly raise without any other factors. I thought it was low, but I guess not! Thanks guys.

Consulting is a bit different. The big firms give about 6-8% to average employees and upwards of 12-14% for high ranked employees. Promotions end up being about 25% bumps for top employees.

I can't speak to your private consulting firm but you need to recognize that the peer group / relative comp set is different in consulting than industry.

Industry standard is 2-3% that basically mirrors inflation. In industry, 5%+ is considered very good but 5% is on the weaker side in consulting.
