There is alot that has been said about the difference between the north and south
Here is an example of that
I'm born and raised Louisianaian, my wife is from Iowa. We've been together since '06, married in '09.
I've always noticed her and her family would change the subject to themselves whenever I brought something up about myself. No big deal, blew it off. I did mention it to the wife because she did the same. No biggee
Today the wife got a job offer that is 75% more than she making now. She calls her Dad in Iowa to give him the good news. He says great and starts talking about his job!
Not once did he tell her congratulations or I'm proud of you! Really! My family celebrates accomplishments in life

You think that is a trait that is attributable to Yankees in general, and not just your family, in particular?
I have direct anecdotal evidence to the contrary. My wife and in-laws are Yankees, and they are nothing like this.
