every now and then, i will scroll thru snap chat maps just to see what people are up to.

Yakutsk is one city i randomly stumbled on. Got to be the strangest place on earth. How does one end up there? it is in the middle of nowhere

Do they run water to keep pipes from freezing? Also, I think Yakutsk is on the Risk game board.

-80... Kids get to stay home at -55

Interesting YouTube series on the life in the world's coldest city. Kids eyelashes start icing before he gets much past his front gate.

Temperatures in the world's coldest city have plunged to minus 62.7°C (minus 80.9 degrees Fahrenheit) -- the coldest in more than two decades, meteorologists say.

That comes just two days after the city's previously set record of minus 50 degrees Celsius (minus 58 degrees Fahrenheit).

So they broke their record cold at -58F and 2 days later, blew by it by over 20 degrees COLDER, at -81F?

Did someone mess up the conversions? That's impressive if not.

The amount of Vodka that town goes through has got to be absolutely insane. Vodka freezes at -16F. They have to thaw their vodka.

I always like Yakutsk. It was a good backup in case another army took my choke point in Kamchatka.

Down a Google earth rabbit hole with this place. Holy shite, talk about isolated!

From what I can tell, the closest “major” city is more than 600 miles away but get this, it’s connected by a dirt road! This place is out there. Railway in and out. These people don’t move out.
