WWL 870 at noon today has 1031 Canal Development explaining Hard Rock collapse

The owners of the collapsed Hard Rock Hotel complained in a newspaper ad Sunday about “misinformation” surrounding the disaster and announced that their representatives planned to appear on a talk-radio program Monday afternoon to set the record straight.
“Considering the recent misinformation and radical allegations, we are here to set the record straight,” the ad says in part. “WE DID NOT DO THE CONSTRUCTION. WE DID NOT DO THE ENGINEERING. THE SITE AND DEMOLITION ARE NOT UNDER OUR CONTROL.”
The ad — signed by “1031 Canal Development LLC” — does not name any of the people associated with that firm, which is the listed owner of the property. The limited liability company is a partnership between developer Mohan Kailas, who holds a majority stake; Todd Trosclair, owner of All-Star Electric; and Denzel Clark, president of Citadel Builders, the prime contractor on the project.
Bill Kearney, a spokesman for the 1031 Canal consortium, said Sunday that lawyer Kerry Miller, of the Fishman Haygood law firm, will be the development group’s representative on Normand’s show Monday.

Yeah, two principals in the developer entity, including the GC, are on the construction team. The worker whose body was exposed worked for Trosclair’s mechanical company. It’s hard to separate the developer and contractors except on a purely technical basis. The developer is getting more bad advice.

There if you look on the Orleans Parish Tax assessors website..Trosclair does own one or two of the adjacent buildings.

Am I understanding that correctly? That a lawyer is going to speak on the radio explaining the collapse of the building?
Yeh, you ain't getting shite on the explanation...Just generic vague statements so no liability is assumed or assessed.

So either the design, execution, and/or materials are at fault.
This will take forever to settle for family, local businesses, the city, insurance, ownership, contractors, suppliers, etc.
Only 3 certainties. The city will collect fines. The attorneys will make beau coup bucks. And multiple entities will pay.
Popcorn potential for a long long time.

SPOILERS:
There ain't Ghana be no good explanations about the Hard Rock Hotel. You will be disappointed if you expect anything different.

Been that way since little Kailas went to jail for stealing Katrina relief money

Mohan might want to remove this paragraph from his very own website before the radio interview...

Mohan Kailas directly oversees the development of all new projects and related business of Kailas Companies, focusing on controlling expenses and increasing profitability – maximizing return on investment

but, as the owners they did hire the engineers, construction company .. etc , right?

I think the lawyer/PR guy is going to explain how 1031 is the company is cleaning it up and will blame the other company as causing it.
Kailas name is on both, but the PR guy will say Kailas' name is on a bunch of companies so that doesn't mean anything.

Easy translation
I know the entire history of our business dealings in New Orleans have been shady and downright criminal.
But THIS TIME we swear it wasn't our fault at all.

based on the news ad 1031 put out, they're absolutely only going on to lay this 100% at the feet of the GC/Engineer(s)

Try to play the victim as well

Cliffs:
Paramilitary were hired to retrieve bodies, engineers did not allow them in.
No way to access body them without risking further collapse and risk.
Developer wasn't the contractor
Contractor is a part owner of 1031, but he wasn't at fault as part owner.
Called it a construction defect case
Racially motivated!!! He got that one in.
OSHA investigation report might be due in April
Bringing up union complaints of unlicensed electrical contractors.
1031 do not have an engineer on staff.
1031 relied on general contractor for engineering review
Newell saying developer always hires 3rd party engineering to review contractor engineering.
PR guy taking issue with everyone holding Kailas personally responsible for the deaths.
Apparantly, the fire chief is giving daily updates. City Council says they are getting no updates.
PR guy won't comment on how the city is handling. Appears to lay the tarp issue all on them.
Developer staying quiet as not to have misinformation. Gather all information before sharing.
City has control via emergency declaration.
1031 does not have authority to access site due to emergency declaration and injunction for evidence preservation.
No extraction due to safety.
Declaration could be lifted after implosion and site deemed safe.
Builders risk in place. No number given. Insurance on site and approved implosion.
Builder group has coverage.
Who makes up shortage of LLC coverage?
Speaking for 1031 he believes they have enough coverage. Resolve cases as quickly as possible. Seems to be saying that he expects the contractors and architects to cover their part as well.
Bringing up whistleblower illegal immigrant.
Date chosen was chosen for post mardi gras and logistics. Implode in march, remove debris by may. Confident it will happen then with the information they have now.
Next step is permitting implosion.
City and 1031 working on plan going forward.
1025 and 1027 will be conventionally demolished.
PR guy wants to make sure everyone knows Kailas is the good guy. Apparently Kailas is paying for the police and fire support. Paying for the logistics. Quit being racist to him. This building was intended to save that corner. Hired reputable contractors. This is going to take more time.
What to expect from 1031 moving forward?
Hopefully regular information flow forward. Resolve legal cases quickly.

Most interesting nugget so far is that 1031 (owner LLC) and the city both hired the same 3rd party engineers as consultants after the collapse
Seems like a conflict of interest?
