All those German tanks were amazing “if ....”

The Sherman doesn’t need a qualifier and it won the goddamn war.

I mean, if this is the take then the real answer is the T34.

This is about best tank, not which one was most effective.

King Tiger was my favorite. But same problem as always for Germany during the war- doesn't matter if you have the best trained soldier, best tank, best battleship, if you are outnumbered 3-1, 5-1, or worse in every confrontation...

Which one would you take to war? Clearly the T-34 is the correct answer. Any other tank is simply not the "Best" as it is not the one that affords the greatest chance of victory in a war.

The purpose of tanks is war fighting.

Which of those tanks has the best chance to kill the other 3?

If I’m picking one to climb into for one on one combat it’s probably a king tiger.

If I’m picking one to mass produce and win a war it’s probably an upgunned T34.

Wasn’t the T34 originally pitched to the US who rejected it?

Its ease of production, ease of transport, and reliability were unmatched. A tank can only be any good when it’s available and operational, which the Sherman was inarguably the best at. And that’s why I’m saying it was the best tank of the war.

I never said the German tanks were better because of exactly what you said. I said the T-34 was because of it

Yeah. Obviously, the way the war went, the T34 was more effective than anything else in the war, save maybe the M1 rifle.

But the King Tiger was a beast. Could the T34 pierce the side armor on a Tiger?

Americans had a t34 version. I would have to look up the specs but it would take a tiger 2 on the tale of the tape. It all boils down to who gets a shot first and positioning of that shot

I'd take the M4 Sherman over the T34. You better produce shitloads of T34s because their mechanical reliability was atrocious. Plus, the crew ergonomics for loading, driving, shooting were inferior to the Sherman.
