I’m in my 40s, and as long as i can remember, people have been ignoring issues in New Orleans like crappy schools, and their solution has just been to keep moving further and further away from the city... Not surprising that NOLA problems are now infiltrating Metry, eventually they will make it across the bridge to Mandeville/Covington as well (in some cases already have).. Eventually people will just run out of places to move to, but probably not in my lifetime, i guess, so they dont care.. god forbid we actually address some of the problems, instead of just moving away from them.

So soft that every murder except for 1 has been solved. Including the JC killer in less than 24 hours.
I’ll give them credit for solving the case quickly, but the killer did leave his cellphone at first shooting. They weren’t exactly splitting the atom on that case.

How would you “address” the problems?
Posted on 6/20/19 at 7:32 am to TheMailman
JP is named after a slave-holder.
Until this travesty is addressed, bad gris-gris will mount.
And reparations should be part of the remedy.

The numbers aren’t that high, and when you get a nutjob picking people off at random, that’s a significant bump.

Yea, Lemon Playground which if you ever played sports in JPRD when you were younger you would know that neighborhood has been rough for 40 years.

“Fix the schools”

As New Orleans housing gets more expensive, trash will continue to move to Jefferson Parish. However it doesn’t seem like that is the case with these murders. At least the JPs solve the large majority of their murders.

Solving murders doesn't do anything to prevent them though. It's great that they get solved, but the people that don't care are already dead

For the record I think Metairie is generally a fine place to live for most people. That said the initial "inner ring" suburbs are starting to struggle in many places. Over the past 20 years many urban cities have done a better job addressing social/infrastructure issues than the suburbs who just deny they exist. If I'm middle/upper middle class, why would I pay the same money to live in the burbs where I have to drive everwhere, crime is only slightly better, the public (and private) schools are only marginally better, and I still might flood.
There are great areas of uptown, mid-city, lake neighborhoods with decent schools (or closer to my kids private schools), closer to work downtown, and I can walk to stuff and maybe even take transit when I want. In that case I'm willing to pay more for a house because the Metairie advantages aren't that great anymore.
Baton Rouge is seeing the same thing, over the past 10 years I've know numerous families with kids who have moved to the neighborhoods around LSU/City Park. Problem is there are only a few neighborhoods in BR that meet this criteria.

There is no way the politicians JP has today would allow Harry to police the way he did. Yes, I'm including his daughter in that group.
The man told people he was going to pull over black people in crappy cars in white neighborhoods, and his deputies did so. There would be riots if that happened today.

Areas like Shrewsbury on the East Bank and parts of Marrero on the West Bank, have gone from poor places to poor places with criminals. The criminals are getting pushed out of parts of NOLA and are relocating to these places.
My only issue with Lopinto is he is a cop in name only. He served a couple of years on the beat a long time ago, but he's an attorney and politician more than a cop. JPSO is probably going to have to change their tactics in those two areas I mentioned, but I don't know if they have people on the force in leadership that are used to dealing with those types of urban issues.
