They're trying to hold on to a "zero COVID" policy in the face of the BA.2 variant which is about 4 times more infectious than the wild type. They have a much larger share of their population that lacks any natural immunity and they haven't been willing to adopt Western vaccines and it seems theirs isn't much good.

What's happening is the Chinese are terrified of the GOP making big gains in November, things getting better in the US; thus, Trump has huge momentum for '24. If Donny gets back in the White House the ChiComs can't push around the US in trade deals. This is just to give Dems cover for mail-in voting fraud.
