oing through a little sticker shock myself lately, looking for a mid size SUV and having trouble finding one for less than $32-35k out the door. That's even for stripped out base models, and used prices for something with less than 75k miles on it is only 1 or 2k cheaper

You must only be looking at vehicles that are only a year or two old.. Try that same <75k miles, but a vehicle that’s 3, 4, or 5 years old and you can find some good deals.. plus you’ll generally get a lot more options than a new, stripped-out model.

Someone should tell the WSJ that the car dealerships give you, like, the option to have a shorter loan

Believe it or not the dumbass they featured was forced into this by NO ONE

Where? Not saying it's impossible to find, but that's not what I've been seeing.

Paid it off but I had a 3-year, 1.99% on about a $30k loan through Jefferson Financial. It's like free money.

Rates were way lower 5 years ago.

shite rates were way lower just a couple years ago.

I got 3.25% on a 14 year old car with 80k miles on it 18 months ago. Friend with excellent credit and a 35% down payment couldn't find below 3.5% on a 2016 vehicle last month.

I financed my truck for 7 years with a low interest rate. Paid it off in two years though.

It’s now my butler’s truck and I have a new one.

no just no. speaking from experience. it is never a good idea to finance something that will last longer than the average length of marriage.

Yet you don't know what you are talking about. If you are smart financially, have 50-60 grand laying around to buy a new car for cash it is much smarter to leave that cash in the market and make 5-8% and borrow the cash at a stupid low rate and make more than you are spending on interest.
