Many hospitals in Chicago have shut down their ERs because they lose so much money on them. Obamacare was supposed to help ease that problem I think, but we hate/hated Obamacare right?
So, did those ERs re-open during Obamacare?

That's a red flag to ER staff that you're full of shite. When someone's pain is actually 10/10, you dont need to ask to find out.

If you threw a clot from calf to toes, it’s an arterial clot, and you need to worry about losing toes, not a pulmonary embolism.

If you have DP and PT pulses that are detectable, you’re going to keep waiting. If it were an arterial clot, you would be in the OR

You realize that a blood clot in your leg can move to your heart/lungs killing you on the spot right.
This happens to people after flying frequently, usually middle aged men.
FACT
If you've been there 3 hours post Ultrasound the TECH looked at it and determined you as a non emergency but can't release you without a Dr's signature. he's probably turning the curve at his favorite course as you sit and wait

Just a bit of insight into the way we view things:
If you say 10/10 pain, Scruffy knows you are full of shite.
In Scruffy’s personal opinion, there is no such thing as 10/10 pain anyway.
It is like trying to find the female who is a 10.
You can get close, but you’ll never actually reach it.
Also, if your pain was that bad, no one would have to ask. You would very clearly show it.
So, to summarize, if you want to be taken seriously, never say your pain is 10/10.

Tommy Frazier, the Nebraska QB from the 90s, suffered blood clots in his leg.
That’s all I have to contribute here. Hope it helps.

ER's have truly become a joke. I had to go to the ER last week for an upper respiratory infection that caused me to suffer from fungal laryngitis and lose my voice. I was worried that I was going to get pneumonia again which hospitalized me about 2 years ago.
Now given the nurses were nice and I was seen pretty quickly but the standard of care was pretty substandard. No x-rays or CT scans and I didn't even get to see a doctor, only a nurse practitioner. I wasn't given anything and subsequently and advised to see my ENT doctor. $160 that I felt like I wasted.

Do you have some immunocompromise issue? Fungal infections like that are usually a sign of immunocompromise.
Pretty much all fungal infections in adults, outside of tinea, are concerning.

If you are showing signs of a URI, the vast majority of the time it is simply viral.

Oh my immune system is probably pretty much shot at this point. I suffer from asthma which means inhaled corticosteroids (in my case Breo Ellipta) as well as Montelukast every day as well as prednisone when symptoms act up. Asthma makes me more susceptible to fungal laryngitis.
I do plan on talking to my ENT doctor on what I can do to prevent this from happening again. With my asthma though I'm not sure if there's much they can do.
Both times I've had fungal laryngitis were after infections. The first one was after pneumonia due to all the antibiotics in my system and this one was after some sort of viral/bacterial infection.

Stop the steroids and decrease risk of fungal infection, but increase asthma exacerbation risk
Or
Manage asthma better, but continue to have this infection risk.
Got to find the right middle ground.
