Wouldn’t CA prepare more for fires if climate change is as serious as they claim?

Seems like CA would be taking any measures to prevent fires if things are only going to get worse.

What am I missing here?

Virtue signaling is their top priority. Not disaster prep.

Clearing debris and underbrush annually like called for in the county budget is a good start.

Just saw on local LA news a guy standing by his smoldering home saying for years they used to watch the fires in the distance but never dreamed they would ever get this close.
Really?

How the frick does some moron downvote this. This is one of the number one things you do in forest management to prevent brush and forest fires.

Must be somebody upset at the facts

The problem with proper preparation for wildfires is that so much of it is the expose of the greatest lie of the modern environmental movement:

We just do not know what is the best course of action; nature is always in flux, and if we try to capture the status of an area as a 'snapshot in time', we have to interfere with a ton of natural processes.

Presumably we want the land to be human inhabitable; that's a big step-- but the necessary actions to preserve it in as 'undisturbed as possible' is so poorly understood that its led to gross mismanagement for the entire history of ''ecology management'.

To be honest, you could clear all the underbrush out and that isn’t going to stop a forest fire in California with 50-100 mph winds.

bullshite. You control burn and put gravel down for fire lanes. Sorry about your nature trail if you want to live in these hills.

The areas that are burning jut up against an entire arse national forest that is thousand of square miles in size.

I mean, if you want to deploy the army to clear the underbrush feel free, and despite what Fox News has told you, the park service does controlled burns there, brush clearance, and other forms of prevention. I’m a hiker and I’ve watched them do it.

It has been very very dry in LA in recent months. One spark and 100 mph winds is a horrible combo in that kind of terrain

Everybody knows when "climate change" causes these fires, the best way to combat it is to cut the fire budget by 17M or so.

Controlled burns and clearing the brush would have been nice and extreme for CA

Should have removed the eucalyptus trees a long long time ago. Introduced invasive species, the oil in them makes them extremely flammable.

That’s a good point. Climate change deniers shouldn’t be more savvy about climate related disaster preparedness than the aggressive climate change activists.
