I'd do it for a year or two max.

That's some serious coin.

I'd have to be making a lot more money now for doubling to be worth that nightmare. Working nights is f&%king miserable.

My brother had to switch from days to nights every 2 weeks for a while

that was brutal

Mine is only 2-3 days per month. I take the next day off. It still messes me up. I'm a very routined person I guess

Yep, I could pay my mortgage off in 2 years.

I would in a heartbeat. Loved working nights.

This.
Worked rotating schedule days and nights. Liked the night shift. Got real quite after all the day people left. No boss around, less distractions.

Sounds like a great way for your wife to start banging the neighbor every night

Sounds like you have serious trust issues.

I would be all over that. Come home at 6, wake the kids up and take them to school. Come back home and eat then sleep. Wake up around 2. Have prime daylight hours to do what I want to before heading back to work. Honestly the worst part of work is the morning grind and dealing with kids carpool and traffic. I could do this for 5 years or so. I would even do 4 10s and then have Friday night through Sunday night off.

You're not going to enjoy daylight hours working 5 nights a week on less than 6 hours of sleep a night.

Absolutely.

Less people to have to deal with, and double the money.
Yep this. So when you get off work at 6-7 am, you can still go do whatever for a few hours and the stores will be way less crowded compared to the afternoon. Only thing that I can think of is if you drink after work, you'll be getting looks buying a 24 pack at 7 am.

Yes, not nearly as many people to deal with.

tempting, but I don't think I could. I love nights for going out and just enjoy hanging out at home more at night. Also, never seeing my wife would suck. Plus, I have terrible insomnia and I doubt this would do wonders for me.

This is one of the main perks. The paper pushes are there in your way at night. I'm about to be back on nights in a few months. Its hell on your off days though.

In college I worked at a bar until 2am and on big nights 4am. Even that schedule I hated. My body was used to waking up at 8am or whenever. You go out for a beer after work and the next thing you know you are watching the sunrise, you sleep in until Noon or later and your day is blown. It was a lot of fun, but the rest of your life suffered.

I can't imagine having to sleep with kids at home. I'm a hard sleeper too, but they'd still come in, pound on the door, yell and scream. Etc.

I always laugh that everyone always says "I'd pay off debts and retire sooner". I mean what's keeping you from doing that now? The reality is even though I think that myself, the majority of people would simply spend the money the same way now and live more lavishly.

I bet most would spend a good chunk of that money "making Up" for the normal schedule they lost.

Yes

I worked nights for 6 years when I was single before I had kids.

It would certainly suck a great deal more now, but double the salary, sign me up.

I also work in Management/Leadership so I wouldn't have to deal with any of the normal issues that pop up daily, and I'd essentially work by myself all night? Sign me up!

I get around 6 hours now and daylight sucks. But I could do this for a few years.

Yep...did it for regular pay for 20+ years.

Nights are cooler, less BS from management, etc. etc.

Worth it?

So fewer hours and twice the salary? Yes.

Working nights is directly attributable to shorter life span and brain degradation. Money is not worth that. Plus you'd never have a life.
