I use to work lots of holidays, we rotated them pretty evenly. Work Thanksgiving, off New Years type things but I have never, ever worked on Christmas day. Outside of a hospital why should anyone work on Christmas. It's beyond Christian holiday, it is deeply American and celebrated internationally as a day to be with family, love em or hate em. I know in my new field I will probably have to pull a Christmas shift at some point but it pays way better plus you get comp time off for more hours than you worked. Its a formula dependent on seniority so it could be 1.5 hours per hour worked or up to double time and if they need to put a higher diff on it they would plus getting OT pay and diff pay and holiday diff pay. Its worth at least a grand in time and money to work a full shift on Christmas.

That would be a massive pay cut, so no.

Some places, like steel mills, have to operate constantly. It's too expensive to restart.

When I was in hospitality I worked Christmas for a hell of a lot less. If you need the money why not.

No, as that would be a significant drop from my hourly-adjusted salary.

i'm a radiologist. my normal rate is between 300 and 400 an hour. but for the holiday call shift, the price was raised to 4800 before i accepted it.

shite there are times where i make $1000 in an hour. The hospital i work at will pay $50 per CT study when they are too far behind, and i can read 20/hour pretty easily. So yeah, $600 an hour isn't even near max for me.

Worked Christmas Day for double-time back in the day

When I die, I won't remember the money (more importantly, I won't have precious Christmas memories that were missed).

Money is important but keep it in perspective.
