that is actually a pretty complicated question...and I don't have an answer right now...

one thing that I will tell you is to be sure you get a lawyer involved to be sure you are not sued if they get hurt...

also, need to be sure to work it so that the adverse possession law does not allow them to take your land after a certain number of years....

I'm confused. You are going to sell them land? Are they building a house on your land or are they just using your land, but not living on it?
If you are letting them build on your land for free, how is this not a GREAT deal for them?

We are not selling the land but would legally give them usufruct - giving them a right to live on the land for free until they die. They would have to build or buy their own house which they would own (thus a portable house would be ideal).

We get nothing from this deal and expect nothing. These are dear friends and our families have been friends for generations. Our inlaws and our son, wife, baby also live on the property. There is enough room where all our houses are about half a mile apart.

How far is the pentagram where y'all sacrifice goats from all of the houses?

But we want to offer them use of the land for their lifetime. We have a well so there is no charge for water. We also have a cow giving us an abundant supply of milk so they would have free milk, cream and butter. So does this seem like a good deal for them?
you will lose your land and the cow

People took care of each other. They didn't belittle them on the Internet.

Rent it to them cheaply, if you must, but there must be set boundaries, physical and legal. I'd talk to a lawyer who knows property rights very well.

My husband is proposing to let them live on our land for free, build or buy their own house and use our pastures and land for their cattle, chickens etc. We do not want to sell the land as it is part of a huge family property. But we want to offer them use of the land for their lifetime

If really want to help them. Sell them enough property to build there house. Lease them the land to run their cattle and such for like a dollar a year. Don't just let them build a house on your property and run cattle without some kind of legal agreement. Too much can change or go wrong.

I see this friendship ending

No but her posts about this land and shite screams cult from what I gather. The infamous land even has its own school taught by the OP for the cult's children.

You forgot to call it a "family compound" like Nurse does, lol.

Cult? Screw that. I have no leader nor do I obey my husband or even attend church. What on earth is cultish about us other than 4 generations of the family all live on the same large property?

Homeschooling? Yes, I have a degree, am certified and have years of experience teaching. We do have a guesthouse that will become a schoolhouse. Why send our baby on a 60 mile roundtrip ride every day when I can homeschool her and her cousin or friends?

Ya'll can rag me all you like. You may not like my life or even me. But I am living the life I want to live. I say sincerely when I say that I hope that you are living the life you want to live. Your idea of a good life is likely very different than mine and I have no issue with that.
