Sounds like they're better off without their parents in their lives. You said families cut them off though.

Oh goody, let's blame religion (and in this thread religious people) for everything. Literally.

That first quote isn't mine and has nothing to do with the second quote which is mine. I blamed it on shitty family, all around. However, if they're drawing a line simply because of a religious basis, then religion may be part of the problem. Any religion that is the reason you would disassociate with your children over, is a shite religion though. Most likely these are just shitty people.

No. I'm not a complete piece of sh*t and thankfully my parents are not pieces of sh*t either.

If your religion has you pushing family members away because they aren't the same religion then it's a sh*t religion

Being fricked in the arse by 72 BBC Virgins is far easier to abide by than the fate that christians claim to believe anyone who has not accepted christ as their savior. Being fricked in the arse by 72 BBC Virgins is finite. Even if its every 1000 years it is far less time than an infinite eternity in a fire. I suspect you ask anyone who has ever had a truly serious burn if they would prefer a year of that or a couple of BBCs up the arse and they all of a sudden gonna like BBCs.

Ridiculous. Every humans fights the ego/personal desire. For you to have this mindset, you either have complete control over it or it has complete control over you.

If my parents were religious and I decided not to be, I wouldn't "proudly" become an atheist and let everyone know about it.

That's disrespectful to your parents. Just drift away from the church and become a non-practicing Christian, in your parents eyes at least.

Telling your religious parents that you are an atheist reveals that there are likely other problems at play.

Atheists, agnostics and believers of all stripes are similar in that MANY of them think anyone else gives a damn what their world view is. They will tell anyone who will listen. They often do so when they want to shove their world view in the face of someone. Believers will claim they are required to do this and their teachings do just that...but their teachings also tell them to do all manner of heinous shite they can't bring themselves to do so one has to ask, why the one about shoving your world view down the throats of others??? There is an answer...it is to make the shover feel good about themselves with no regard as to the impact their shoving may have on another person. Feeling good about yourself at the expense of another is not ethical or moral...but most folks do it on a regular basis.

This reminds me of that Burr bit on never hitting a woman. "Oh really, there's never a reason to hit a woman? What if she's drowning your kids in the bathtub?"

Maybe it's just because i've come up in a family with a sociopathic member, but i'm not sure I agree with the absolute nature of "unconditionally."

At least in my bubble, atheists tend to bring up religion way more than the Christians I know.

I do not think there is such as thing as a sidewalk atheist...but go to almost any place in the south and odds are you will find a few sidewalk preachers.

I have never walked into a public restroom anywhere in the world and found an Atheist flier in the stall. About 3 days a week I find religious pamphlets in the bathroom, stuck under the windsheild wiper of my truck, or handed to me while in public.

I have never had an atheist knock on my door and ask me If I ever though about giving atheism a try. I have had Beleivers do that in every country and every place I have ever lived.

I have never opened my mailbox and found an invite to a atheist meeting. I have never had a mailbox where I did not get such things from churches in the area.

I have never been to an event and saw a sign about the event being sponsored by an atheist group. Have almost never been to one where some church group wasn't pushing its wares through sponsorship.

This list goes on and on forever. The fact is most believers are taught that to be a good believer you gotta recruit. Atheists do not even have something called a good atheist...

Not me. The Christians around here often want to know where you go to church, etc. I prefer not to discuss religion at all so do not engage.

There's no point in a discussion because neither of us will change the other's mind. But we may get pissed off. Just keep it to yourself and remain friends.

And yet here you are on nearly every page of this thread running your atheism up a flagpole so others can see how intellectual you are.

Interesting that you've stated in this thread that Christians and anyone else who believes in a religion are arrogant because they believe they have the right answer and yet here you are, labeling billions of people with the broadest of brushes.

I'll listen to people, as I said earlier about my atheists neighbor (great guy) he just constantly talks about it. I just shake my head and change the subject. Other people's opinions on religion or lack there of serve no interests to me. It should, as a Christian, but it doesn't. Outside of the occasional TD thread I involve myself in. I don't push my views on others either.

The, i need your prayers threads arent being started by atheists.

This thread probably wasnt started by an antheist. Most likely all the religion talk you have had today was started by a Christian.

Mormon? Wouldn't care.

Atheist? Possibly.

Just doesn't believe in God but is otherwise a good and moral person? Nope.

Completely off the rails evil and disrupting Mass and other violent shite? More than likely.

I would caution you that just because your friends say they were disowned because of their religion doesn’t mean it’s true. They may genuinely attribute it to that but there could be other factors at play.

Not saying that’s the case but just saying people’s perceptions of relationships can be skewed by emotions.
