No.

I don’t like people calling me doctor outside of work either though.

Only MDs should be called doctor in all settings, IMO.

PhDs and other doctors should be called a doctor in professional settings.

Depends on the setting. In an educational setting yes, in a clinical setting no.

Someone doesn't stop being a "doctor" because they have no license to practice. They still hold a doctorate.

If someone is an MD but they work as a CMIO of a healthcare system are they no longer a doctor?

And they dont think anyone without an MD deserves to be called doctor anywhere. Their favorite thing to do when they meet a PhD is ask real nicely, "Oh where did you go to med school? We went to LSU Shreveport!.....OH, okay, well good."

This is almost as douchey as people who are doctors wanting to be called "doctor" outside of their professional setting.

Doctor was an educational title long before it was used to refer to physicians.

Grats on getting your doctorate in some useless field that has no crossover to the real world?

I’ve always thought it weird how arbitrary social use of titles is. Dr, Professor, (insert religious title here), all considered normal, to the point that omitting them is considered disrespectful. Yet, other professions would be looked at like they are insane if they tried to use a title.

I would like to be called Master, thank you.

I had a middle school foreign language teacher that had a PhD. She would do get annoyed too if someone called her Mrs instead of Dr

Outside of a professional setting there is no reason to refer to anyone as doctor. All doctors(physicians or academics) put their pants on one leg at a time just like you and I do.

Even in an academic setting, I would call her by her first name. And I would mispronounce it just to piss her off.

Or we could just call them doctors in professional settings. And not call them doctors outside of it.

If you hear the phrase, "is there a doctor in the house," only those who can answer the call should be called doctor.

If she can't deliver a baby on a plane in an emergency delivery, she is just "passenger".

Sorry

This isn't a new thing. There have always been some people with a doctorate that insist on being called doctor.

Maybe it has something to do with the title “Dr” originally being created and conferred upon those earning the PhD.” Doctor” is derived from the Latin word meaning “to teach”.

I get “Doc” and “hey Doc” a lot from friends and family. I’m used to it, but I still don’t like it.

I would NEVER introduce myself as such in public. In fact I’m always hesitant to even tell people what I do for a living.

PhD’s like the one mentioned in the OP and people like DR. Jill Biden should be mocked and not taken seriously. They are MAX Level of pretentiousness.
