The only title I use outside of a professional situation is "Father" or its requested variation from any recognized religion. I'm not the most religious guy on the planet, but that stuck.

And they dont think anyone without an MD deserves to be called doctor anywhere. Their favorite thing to do when they meet a PhD is ask real nicely, "Oh where did you go to med school? We went to LSU Shreveport!.....OH, okay, well good."

That’s stupid. Your inlaws sound obnoxious.

Hey Dr Pilot, what is the fastest a 747 or L10-11 could go? Or would normally go?

Thanks.

Hey Dr Pilot,

it's about time!

747 can cruise at .92, 1011 around .86, don't always cruise at the fastest possible speed

If I know someone is an M.D. I will address them as "doctor" in social settings. 98% of the time they will then ask that I just address them by their first name.

They sound just as insufferable as this lady. Other doctorate graduates deserve the title in their professional setting like PhDs in the classroom. People bitching about not being called Dr outside of their professional environment deserve a Will Smith slap.

I guarantee they called their undergrad and med school PhD instructors "doctor" on campus at the very least.

How about, "Hey, you"?

Or how about no one ever refer to you at all, perfessor?

I find the presumption that people need to concern themselves with what offends other people, well, offensive.

Too many times I've been lectured on what someone finds offensive without them ever for a moment considering what I may find offensive. Why should I give one single shite about what you find offensive if you don't care about what I find offensive?

I have a DDS and an MD.

I absolutely hate being called Dr, Doc, etc outside of work.

I should be thankful though. If this doctor was ever right about the weather, my house would have been destroyed so many times.

The only time I think it's natural to call a PhD "Dr." is when you're knocking on their office door to talk about some dogshit grade you got

I’ve always thought it weird how arbitrary social use of titles is. Dr, Professor, (insert religious title here), all considered normal, to the point that omitting them is considered disrespectful. Yet, other professions would be looked at like they are insane if they tried to use a title.

Now that I’m saying it, all of those professions were considered in between the titled nobility and the peasant class. So while they had no title from heredity, they likely took on a title due to class, as a way to distance themselves from the untitled peasants.

Pretentious bastards.

no...and most academics I respect don't insist on it even in the academic setting. Their research, work, and presence speaks for them so they don't get caught up in the title.

My wife hates my poling skiff (stop with the childish comments, its a small boat).

Probably because the one time she went fishing with me, I made her call me Captain Stabbin the entire time.
