Time off. If I needed more money I could start a landscaping business. It' would be a hell of a lot more satisfying than sitting in an office.

seems like a lifetime ago. Life was a lot easier when I was in college. Would go back in a heartbeat.

frick do you know how much hunting I could do with 17 weeks off? That's 15 weeks of hunting and 2 weeks of vacation with the wife.

Seriously the pay cut is worth it if you value your time off. The pay rate would be about the same but if you can't use the time off for something you love then you might as well be working. My next question would be benifits and advancement or pay raises.

Take the 6 weeks deal shove the extra earnings in an investment/retirement fund and retire early. Maybe donate a good bit to charity

Gotta look at the value of your time. What are they valuing your time at if you work the extra 11 weeks? Are you getting something extra out of working more, or are you working on the cheap?

17 weeks - 6 weeks = 11 weeks

$30,000/11 = $2,727 per week

Using your numbers (you're a bastard, btw), your time is more valuable the less you work.

215,000/35 weeks = $6,142 per week

You would be working those extra 11 weeks for less than half what you make the rest the year.

I appreciate the OTs insight tonight....nobody told me to frick myself or anything....

However quality of life likely will suck more as the night shift is privvy to butt puss, vaginal abscesses, trauma......etc

The dayshift is work but you have tons of ancillary staff and scheduled cases....

I'm still awake working a night shift in the call rotation awaiting another case......so half my morning is shot now to catch up on lost sleep.

I forgot to say I get 7 weeks paid at 10 years and 8 at 20 years.....if I don't take the night spot.

However if I do take the night spot and decide to get out of it I can still go back to call and not lose my time in the group.

10 night shifts a month....14 hr shifts m-th 12 hr fri-sun.

Me and two other guys would cover 31 days per month.

more money and 6 weeks.
If I am gone 17 weeks a year this place wouldn't make it 6 months and then I wouldn't have a job.

Your OP may be one of the worst in history for details fyi.

So you are saying 17 weeks off is night shift and 6 weeks off is day shift? That's a huge freaking difference.

I'd probably go 6 weeks off then.

So you are working 12 and 14 hour shifts at night? What about with the less money during the day? Those night weeks you work you will be basically wasting your entire week. Since I've got a family, I'd take the day shifts.

Exactly.

His next post is that he had to take it up the A literally once a week or the extra time off.

And then after that will be the more time off is overseas work.

It's not that hard to put all those important details in the OP.
